Any of you fellas have any experience with these two rifles. I'm looking at the .338 Win Mag and Montana Rifle has a nice website and does a good job promoting their rifle. The newer Model 70 is blessed with a free-floated and bedded barrel and nice trigger. I'm a slut for accuracy so any incite into accuracty of either rifle is appreciated.

I have a model 70 supergrade out of the new plant in 300WSM that is a real good shooter. The fit and finish is really nice on this rifle as well. Got rid of a Kimber in the same caliber that didn't feed or shoot that great. I don't have any experience with a Montana rifle, but I haven't heard anything bad about them yet.

i recently bought an fn model 70 super grade, in 270 win. it is the most accurate "stock" factory rifle i have ever owned. i like everything about the rifle. based upon my experience, and what i have read regarding the newer fn model 70's, i think you will be well satisfied should you purchase one. good luck with whatever you select.

I have a Montana 1999 in .375 H&H.

Buy the Winchester.

Unless you WANT a custom, with exact specifications, get the Winnie.

+1 for the new 70. Picked up a FW a few months ago, shoots light out and the fit and finish is terrific.

I would go with the Winchester for the forged receiver. I believe the montana actions are still made by Pinetree castings. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd consider the Montana....if I wanted a rifle in a caliber I couldn't get from Winchester, especially something with an odd length, since you can specify the magazine length in the Montana.

In this instance, with a common 338, M70 without hesitation.

I have one of the new Safari Express M70's in 416 Rem Mag and really like it. I am actually about to buy a 338 Win Mag and have decided to get either the Super Grade or Extreme Weather SS. I prefer synthetic stocks but have to admit the Super Grade is a beutiful rifle. If you go with Winchester you will not be disappointed.

The Extreme Weather is a NICE gun, I have handled several. VERY light, but that stock/pad combo is awesome. I have basically the same set up on a Vanguard (B&C Medallist) and it took the 308 down quite a bit. Not that a 308 recoils much, but still it was very soft shooting compared to other 308's I've shot.

I am going to put a B&C Medalist or HS Precision stock on the 416 Rem. I have both on other guns and do not worry about scratches or dings. I love aluminum bedding blocks.

I have two of the new Model 70 extreme weathers. One in 7-08, and one .308 I sent the 7-08 to McMillian and had them mount it in a Sako Hunter profile stock. Palm swells, and just an awesome feel. Love both of them, extremely accurate, and with a little polishing, and backing the adjustment screw out, the trigger is just fine. (just under 2.5 lbs.) would highly recommend.
