Scope mount pre 64 win M70 .270
Having a hard time finding a mount for this rifle I found one but it’s extension on both ends looks dumb what are the hole spacing and who makes one now? Every time it seems to be a magnum which has different rear hole spacing long action I’m guessing not magnum for a .270

Thanks

I used the 2-piece Weaver bases on my Model 70. It is a pre-64 type action but a recent rifle. You can turn them 180 degrees to make the ring spacing fit your scope. I also use Weaver rings. The rings and bases are sturdy but lightweight.

Warne and Talley both make them. I have both on a couple of pre 64 270s'.

I like the old Redfieds, I pick them up at gun shows and on auctions, wherever..Look cool on pre 64 and stout all steel makes stay put with torx screws..talley is another favorite, Leupold makes a nice set also..

Numerich might still have old B&L mounts, which, if you can find the scopes to go with them, would make a marriage made in Heaven from both a historic and reliability point. Leupold Adjusto-Mounts and a turretless Pioneer scope would also float my boat but they are even harder to find.

Any gun store or gun smith should be able to fix you up or contact the makers direct..Most all dealers should have pre 64 win bases and rings..Should not even be a problem. I have many of them but mine ared old and collectable..

Id suggest you get a set of weavers at $30. give or take//

Talley, which has always been my favorite maker of scope mounts, make both standard and extended bases. The extended bases do not overhang the ejection port.

Which bases you choose will depend on the scope you are going to mount.

Most of my P64 M70's wear the talley 1pcs. Lwts., a couple have leupold DD.
On my 300 H&H I have S&K's which are also very nice mounts.

That looks nice, Rich. Is that scope steel? The alloy ones might have put less strain on the mounts but were inclined to get gouged by the front cones under recoil.
