analog_peninsulaSpeer .284 150 gr HotCore experiences?
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know whether these bullets are hard or soft? Do they work best at 7x57 velocities or 7mm RM velocities? I've got a bunch of them and was thinking about using them in a 7mm IMHSA at 2300 fps or so on hogs, does, etc., but am a little concerned about adequate bullet expansion.
Thanks

fredj338Well I have shot the 145gr & 160gr & find them soft. Best used, IMO, in the 7-08 & 7x57, not magnums. At 2000fps impact vel, they should still give you some decent expansion.

rickt300I have used the 160 a lot and find it an excellent bullet in both my 7x57 and 7MM RM.

olarmyI have used the 145gr Hot Core for many deer over several decades from a 280 and a 7Mag at about 3050 fps. Never saw anything but excellent performance.

Hot CoreI've never lost a Deer to a Speer 145gr Hot-Cor from a 7mmRemMag. Have used a good number of boxes of those bullets on Deer and just never had a problem. Have had a few different 7mmRemMags and the muzzle Velocity varied from 3000-3100fps depending on the rifle and which Powder I was using.
I prefer to Enter the on-side shoulder and have it make an Exit through the off-side shoulder. Very few make it any distance that requires Tracking with that placement.
Also used the Speer 145gr SPBT at longer distances in the same rifles and never had a problem with them either.
Nothing wrong with the 160gr Mag Tip or Grand Slam either, especially if you have an opportunity for a HUGE Trophy Buck.
Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.
