BlacktailerAnyone shooting Barnes in an 8mm-06?
Just curious if anyone has experience with this combo and if you have any chronograph results. The Barnes No 4 lists loads with little or no velocity gain over the listed 8x57 loads. Most other loading manuals show approx 150fps gain from this conversion. Anybody have real world experience? I'm thinking of converting a surplus 8x57.

Having worked up several loads W/Nosler 180gr BTs & 200gr Partitions in both the 8X57 & 8mm-06 Ackley Improved I've found that, when loaded to the same 60,000 psi pressure range, the 8mm-06 A.I. only beats out the 8X57 by about 100-125 fps when loaded @ the same pressure W/similar bullets.
These are chronographed loads working from "Quickload" data.
The 8X57 is an amazingly effecient case for the 8mm bore.
Those damned Germans must have known what they were doing.

duckboatI have tried both the 180 and 200 grain bullets, but haven't chronied them. My gun accurately shoots the 180 grain with 58 grains of IMR4350. I didn't even know Barnes had 8mm-06 loading data because their latest manual doesn't include it. I instead looked at their loading data of the 30-06 and the 338-06 and also looked at other reloading manuals and their 180 and 200 grain data.
