I spent the day stalking Hill Country whitetails in drizzle and light rain. Because my gun was slung over my shoulder, I know some water was going down the muzzle. I used to use a condom for this, but now that I am older and married, I don't keep 'em around. Besides, it is hard to explain condoms in the hunting gear to the missus. The condoms used to work great! I didn't even have to take them off to shoot.
What do you guys use to keep your bore clean and dry in the rain?
(And yes, I do know that I could have carried the gun muzzle down, but I have never really been comfortable that way. )

hayes4I keep a roll of electrical tape in my day pack for covering my muzzle in the rain. I have also used the tape as a bandage if the need arose.

NBHunterI either use electrical tape or, one my larger diameter bores, I had cut the fingeres out of a surgical glove and slid it over the end. Come to think of it, it looked just like a rubber on the barrel... and they say guns aren't safe.

I am not sure whether my barrel is too thin or my dick is too thick but...I've got better results with electric tape.

I've also had better luck with tape...The condoms and finger cots can be stripped off fairly easily if you are hunting around brush or vegetation..
Duct tape works fine and sticks a little better in my experience than electrical tape...
You are aware of course that you can fix ANYTHING with duct tape...

Anyway, I fully support your recomendation as I, myself, have lost the condom while hunting around brush or vegetation..

meteMake sure you never put anything in the bore only on the outside . You can shoot through the tape safely without any problem.

<Savage 99>Some carry extra tape wrapped around the barrel or on the opposite side of the butt stock from the cheekpiece.
Duct tape goes good color wise with a SS barrel.
It's big bores and shotguns that are most vulnerable.

Frank NowakowskiWhen in doubt....... go to duct tape. Duct tape is what keeps most of the modern world up and running. I trim a little 3/8" square off the tape and apply to the end of the barrel. Then again it doesn't rain or snow out here in MT anymore.

SeanDi dont worry about rain, it plugging the barrel with snow i worry about. Climbing over logs, brush, etc, its easy to do. I use one piece of electrical tape over the muzzle, and one piece wrapped around the barrel to hold it in place.

SnapperI've always used a small piece of masking tape to keep everything out of the barrel. I also tear off several extra pieces and stick them inside the gun on the floorplate. It is a simple matter after shooting the gun to drop the floorplate just a little and peel one off and place it over the barrel.

375HHI use the tape you put over the bulletholes att the range. Black. Looks better than all your rubber stuff.

JiM70Use electricians tape, put a strip over the over the bore, then a single wrap right behind it. Also, you method of carry can make a difference. Standard, strongside or "American" carry will allow mousture to get down the bore. Weakside or "African" carry limits this. Your ready position is also critical, outdoor ready points that muzzle up again and limits your field of view. Low ready is much better in almost every situation, the only problem is that it may tire you out faster.
