anybody out there encounter a rem 700 stainless
hvy bbl in 6.8 spc rem.stock is blk with green flecks. The part I find interesting is on the side of the bbl it is stamped 6.8mm rem. spc. 1st production run. anyone have info on this configuration and bbl stamping?

I wish they had stamped the receiver rather than the barrel. Change out the barrel and the markings are gone. I have looked at one but just cannot get wound up about the cartridge. Has about the same getty up and go as a 30-30 Winchester.

Could become very collectable in the future.

I am looking at those same rifles for a steal of a price on another site,..but as stated,..the chambering is "wimpy" with no real claims to being special in any way. I thought of putting one in the safe for the same reasons Eddie has stated,..but am still on the fence.

The price is awful tempting though

Assuming because the 6.8SPC boltface is odd, Rem stamped "6.8SPC" on the side of the bolt, near the face (at least on my 700 Tactical).
The appeal of this cartridge is cuz it's different, and efficient for a small .277 cartridge.

I just bought one, according to the information I have received the stamping "1st Production Run" means the initial 500 Rifles produced in this caliber. I too purchased the rifle to put back in the safe.

I think you guys are bashing this round w/o any real knowledge.I have one on a Contender and love it .Go to Remingtons home page and lok at it in their ballistics page compare it to a 30-30 and I think you will be surprised.It was designed for an AR upper so I am betting factory ammo is not loaded to max.I have one on a bushmaster upper and it is really fun to shoot no recoil or muzzle lift,you can see what you hit and keep firing.w/regards

I'm with Gophershooter on this one. I built up one using a Ruger 77 Allweather rifle, a 270Win Remington mountain take-off barrel set back and rechamber and put a decent aftermarket trigger on it. It did need a 22/250 magazine box and follower to make it feed properly, but I did get a capacity increase to five rounds.

It shoots sub 1/2moa with Hornady factory 110gr V-max ammo and it spits them out there at 2700fps from it's 20" barrel.

Mine is in my truck, wears a Trijicon 3-9x Accupoint and has a spare NEGC peep sight in the bugout bag along with extra ammo. Cost without the scope was well under $550.

How much are these priced at on the other site?

To think the 7mm BR has been around for years and not seen use.

Now we have a 6.5 Grendel, ahhhh but it does not have REM backing it. To me, it and the BR's are better. The 6.8 to me offers nothing that the Grendel can do much better, and much further.

I also like the BR's for the standard bolt face.

If one just wants a 6.8, knows it's limits, then by all means go for it, but I want a little more myself.

They were going for $519 shipped on snipershide, but they've sold out (well over 50 rifles were bought up there).

So far I've heard they've been real shooters, to boot.

An incredible round, no.... but it'll get replaced in a youth stock for my kids first deer rifle, less recoil than a .243, with a bigger hole punched in the animal.

If it won't shoot, then the sum of the parts should more than equal the price paid for the whole.

I think that case would be awesome with heavy 224 or 204 bullets maybe even 6mm in the 50-70 grain range. I made some up and they look right. I have not got around to getting the reamer. Another some day project.
