Can A Remington 798 really weigh

only 7 lbs. Go to their website and click on specs and they are claiming 7 lbs . This with a laminated stock. Can this be?

Sure...plastic barrel, pot-metal receiver, styrofoam stock, and wooden bolt = 7.0 pounds

There are many relatively light 98 Mauser rifles of around 7 pounds. My old 649 Husqvarna in 30-06 on an FN 98 action weighs in at just under...with sights.

I always figured a mauser would weigh more...I better look for a Daly and fast I fear.
