250 grain 8mm Woodleighs
Anyone used these in the 8 Mag?
Are they tough enough?
And did they stabilize in a 1 in 10 barrel?

SafarischorschIn my oppinion woodleighs are too soft for fast calibers like 8mm Mag or 8x68S.
Use Partitions, CDP, KJG or A-Frame!

AtkinsonThey won't come apart, but they will expand to a large diameter and that is not condusive to a whole lot of penitration, at least that was my observation on them when used on elk by a client of mine over a few years...They sure killed them well and on the spot, but I would not take a going away shot with them..
They work great in a 8x57 on anything encluding Cape Buffalo, lots of penitration and normal expansion..I have a friend that has shot a lot of Cape Buffalo with them over the years.
Hmm, This is disconcerting. I just got some of these with the intent of using them in my 8x68 when it is completed. I also have some of the swift 220's. What then is a real heavy weight 8mm that will penetrate? I was hoping for some 250's. Or am I stuck with 220's.. Any input on how well the Swift's hold up?

Yentna RiverI use this bullet in a couple of 8x57s at a muzzle volocity of 2300.This is a very accurate bullet in my rifles, usually grouping MOA or better.IMO heavy for cal.round nose bullets arn't the bullet of choise for lazer beem trajectory but for bone crushing, deep, wide ,wound chanels on heavy game at moderate ranges.
Woodleighs recommended impact volocity is 1900-2700.Why not work up an accurate load with a MV between 2500-2700.Shoud be just about perfect for heavy game out to 250-300 yards.
Could not get them to work in my 8mm mag due to the fact I had to seat them out further than the recommended COL. They would then not fit in my magazine.

Stay with your Swifts or take CDP or partitions in fast 8mms!
I picked up a box each of 220 and 250 grainers. Sometime I'll give them a try.
For africa, I'll use the A-Frames or Barnes Xs.
