9,3x66
Gentlemen
Any of you out there, having any experience with this new caliber?
How is the performance compared with the good old 9,3x62?

ramrod340I have not played with it. But have done some of my own testing while moving an Ackley shoulder forward. The shoulder if moved forward 4mm that is 6.45%. Without drawing it up let's just assume that increases gross capacity 6.45%. You will see about a 1 for 4 gain. So 1.6% velocity on 2500 is 40fps. If you are mag box limited the base of the bullet will still set just as deep in the case. Where you could gain a much larger increase is if your mag would allow you to set the bullet out 4mm or longer.
I spent a LOT of time in my younger days playing with a 280 case I blew out and moved the shoulder forward to look like a Gibbs with a longer neck and 40deg shoulder. After a lot of pressure testing what I found was 1%for 4% capacity incease at the same pressure. If I had a 3.4" mag I would simply stay with the 9.3X62.
I've toyed with using my reamer and building a 9.3. But for the limited gain I've decided to stay with the factory. After 40 years of hunting I no longer feel 50FPS will make a difference in how dead the animal is.
My 2cent opinion is the 9.3x66 is a solution to a problem that didn't exist.

boilerroomI have one chambered in a Sako 75 and I like this rifle chambering combo a lot!!
I'm still working on my loads but right away I've been getting MOA with 250 gr Btips. I've only tried a couple of groups of of 286 gr Partitions but they were accurate too.
I will be trying to push the velocities to their upper limit in the coming weeks.
I have an on going thread on my results. I will be updating it soon as I just put a new scope on it and will now get back to developement. You can look at my recent posts to find the thread or do a search.
