Are the Tikka Mags interchangeable? For example can you use a 30-06 mag in a 308?


The Magazines on the SA cals in this rifle are terribly short, just looking at options.

Since the 308 and the 30.06 have the same outside diameter, the '06 mag will work with 308s. The problem you will have is the bolt stop on the 308 will prevent your bolt from going further back than the 308 mag. You'll need to change bolt stop also.

Thanks Hoghunting. I've only owned one of these rifles but, felt since it was built on a LA and the magazine had the block in it, I felt the 06 based mags may work in the rifle.

Is the bolt stop change out a simple task? I haven't really studied this new rifle all that much. My CF experience lies mostly with M700s, M70s, Abolts, and Ruger 77s.

I haven't really looked or paid to much attention on how the bolt stop is installed, so I can't help you there. What I did on my WSM mag, I used a file and removed a few thousandths on the filler block and took a little off the front of the mag so the bullet tip had more room. Just be careful and don't remove too much.
