Help. My CZ 500FS in 9.3 X 62 is giving me fits and I leave for Namibia in three weeks. It shoots 1/2 inch groups at 50 Yds., 3/4 to 1 inch groups at 100 yds., but won't shoot less than a 6 inch group at 200 yds??? This is with two different loads, Barnes TSX 250gr. and Nosler Partition 286gr. The rifle is bedded and trigger reworked, everything else is stock.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this very distrubing situation or have a suggestion for a possible cure?? All help and ideas appreciated.

Check the scope for paralax issues, I don't care what brand. Also, from what I understand, 200 yards is a long shot for africa. You can kill any game animal in africa with 3MOA accuracy.

ETA: I'm sorry to tell you this but it is most likely either the scope or shooter.

If it's a low power scope with a thick reticle, then it could be difficult to print a reasonable group at 200 yds.

I recently had a similar issue with my BRNO 30-06. Ragged holes at 100yards but at 200yards the rifle was consistantly 4" right....

Thought it was a scope mounting issue but decided to run through what changed between the 100 and 200 yard groups.

Decided that the 200yard firing position was slightly sloped to the left which meant I put more rightward pressure on the fore end. As the rifle was supposed to be free floated and bedded something was obviously wrong. I pulled the barrelled action from the stock and examined it to find that the rear sight lug under the barrel was only barely floated. I increased the gap and the problem was cured.

I would check to see if your position has changed and is having an effect on the unloated (I presume being a full stock?) barrel.

I have lost count of the number of times the number 1 choice rifle has been ditched for a good old faithful reserve on a hunting trip... I would choose confidence in a smaller calibre over worrying on a bigger calibre every time!
