NavigatorLooking for lightest yet strongest rings and bases for a 6lb. 24" 7mm rem. mag
Howdy Yall,
Built a lightweight Hunting rifle in 7mm mag. I am looking for lightweight rings and bases but dont want to sacrifice the strength either.
Any good ideas other then the usual leupold rings and bases?
Thanks for your time

Chuck NelsonYou might give Talley lightweights a try. Melvin Forbes is behind them.

Orion 1Conetrol. Also the best looking, by far.

Gringo CazadorI have to agree with the others on Conetrol, they are pretty slick.
I couldn't get Conetrol as fast as I need them, and a gunsmith told me about b-square rings for lightweight rifles with muzzlebrakes, I put them on weaver bases on my 300wby ultralite, very light and holds up to recoil with a muzzlebrake.

BusMaster007For a compromise in weight and cost on my 700 Police/.308, I installed the Leupold Mk4 1-pc. base and Weaver Grand Slam medium rings.
The setup was perfect and detachable.
Leupold makes the Mk4 base in long action, too, I believe.

CrosshairsI've used the Leupold dual dovetail rings and bases on the past several rifles and I really like them. I've never used Conetrol. Conetrol mounts definitely are good looking but they are also expensive at ~$100/set for the low end.
The first time I saw Conetrol mounts was in a Brown Precision catalog about 20 years ago and Brown still recommends them so they must be good. I don't believe they'd recommend junk for their $3000 rifle.
With all of that said... I can certainly recommend the Leupold dual dovetail. They are very attractive with the fluted bases and I doubt if you are giving up more than a couple of ounces.

NavigatorMany thanks to all who replied.
I looked Conetrol over very well and then found S&K. They are very similar and S&K is a bit cheaper. Only weights 3 ounces for rings and bases. With LE discount, rings and bases shipped to my door, were 78.25.
I dont think that is to bad and they are life time garaunteed
