325 kimber montana
I have a 325 kimber montana that i have been thinking about having rebarreled and puting a custom stock on. I am looking for info about who makes the best and a good gunsmith to do the work around fairbanks or should i have the barrel maker do the work. I have not been happy with the gun the stock cracked after around 5 rounds i thought i fixed it but it keep cracking after the 4th time i sanded the stock down and found a 1inch by 1/2inch air pocket. with the help of members of this forum i got it to shoot around 1.5 inch groups but it is very picky about bullet and power choices and does not like to be loaded hot at all.

I too, would contact Kimber about the stock. Shouldn't be that way. As to a quality smith, Dennis Olsen in Plains, Mont. rebarreld my Kimber .270 WSM with a Lilja barrel. IMHO, he's honest, does good work and was on time with my project. I'd definitely go with him again. Sorry, don't have an address or phone # handy but I'm sure you could "Google" him. Good luck.

Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.

I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have.

Gun control means using two hands.

I just moved to alaska and will be deployed for about 6mon and though it would be a good time to get the work done. I work at a 800yard range need a gun to drop a larue target at 800. My 243 will work to 550 but after that it will not knock them down.

Not trying to be smart here, but did you tell them that the stock cracked after five shots, or did you just ask for a new stock. I've had work done by them, and they were nothing but helpfull and my gun was back in just over a week.
Worth a try . I love the stock on my Montana.
BTW, Thank You for your service.
