woodsieWhich Bullet...300win mag??
Which Factory ammo for a 300Wing mag. I will be Black bear hunting with Jim Shockey on Vancouver island this may.
Federal Premium 180gr Nosler Partiion or Federal premium 200gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw.
Thanks in advance,
W.

AtkinsonBoth are excellent choices and you cannot go wrong with either..which one shoots best in your gun is probably the one to use. I have used the 200gr. Nosler for years in my 200 H&H and even my 30-06 and I think its and outstanding bullet, but so is the TBBC which I have used very little but the few times I have it performed to perfection in each case.

Strawman419My advice is not worth very much because I haven't used either, but have you thought about the Swift A Frames? It seems to be a nosler partition but it is bonded in the front. On something like a bear, I would prefer to ensure penetration with a slight risk in a reduction of expansion.

I have killed a lot of game including elk and black bear with a 300 Mag and 180 Nosler Partitions.
Also with a 300 Mag I have killed elk and red fox with the 200gr TBBC.
I recovered bullets from 2 elk and from one red fox.
The suprising thing is the 200gr TBBC that was recovered from the fox, shot at @ 275 to 300 yards, expanded very weell. It wad found in the snow behind the fox.
This showed me that the TBBC is a great expander even at long range, and its penetration had never been in question.
So... baised on actual use of both bullets, I would pick the one that shoots best in your rifle.
You cannot go wrong with either one.
Good luck on your hunt.

jro45I used the Nosler Partition 200 gr while in Africa. I was using my 300 RUM and [the bullets] worked just fine.
The 200 gr bullets will go a little slower in the 300 Win Mag Tho.

swampshooteri've used both brands in 180gr. in the 300win mag, both are excellent, you can't go wrong with either one.
velocity is like a new car, always losing value.
BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

Mighty PeaceI previously used prior to reloading for my 300WM, and highly recommend Winchester Supreme 180gr Accubond CT's or the Winchester Supreme Elite XP3's in 180gr.
Awesome performance on big game here in Alberta.
I reload 180gr Accubonds for my 300WM.

DocThis is much like picking the silver mercedes or the black porsche. Pick your poison and go with whichever shoots best in your rifle.
Both are overkill, so enjoy your hunt!

I'll take the latter but either are excellent bullets.
That said....any factory load .300 mag 180 grain and larger is an excellent choice for blackies.

JLHeardI'd say whichever one shoots best. But I use a 200grn Partition my .300 H&H, and it works like a charm.
It is not enough to fight for natural land and the west; it is even more important to enjoy it...So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends...

AtkinsonN E 450 no2,
If a 200 gr. bullet won't penetrate out the other side of a fox at any range then my God man you are in trouble!
