Barnes MRX in Federal .300 Win Mag

I just saw that Federal Cartridge now has the Barnes MRX 165gr and 180gr in .300 Win Mag available.

I can't belive it,
Somebody actualy had me thinking about factory ammo ! (I am so ashamed)
I would imajine the new barnes bullet would be excelent, but if you go to midway you will see they sell in 20 bullet boxes for about 1.00 per round.
I can't imajine how a bullet can be that much better than the tripples shock.
In my opinion if a 300 win with a barnes 168 or 180 (is there a 200) ?grain tripple shoch is not enough gun you need a bigger cartridge.
Call me crazy if you want to but the preformance I saw with a 100 grain tripple shock pushed at 3100 fps from .257 Roberts on a mule deer, has convinced me that my .270 might go from margional on elk to compleetly Exceptable.
This year along with my 45/70 I might take a 270 with a 150 grain tripple shock after wapiti, and leave my .338 win and my 35 Whelen home. ...tj3006

It's not just about the bullets ability to kill. Nosler Partitions have been reliably killing big game for decades, but they can throw off a lot of metal on penetration and cause a lot of bloodshot tissue. 100% weight retention should result in less meat damage with full petal opening in a high velocity projectile.

I can't get Barnes bullets to shoot in my .300 win. It loves Accubonds though. My rifle will be back soon after a tune up I will try to shoot Barnes's again.

I don't see the 165 MRX, hopefully someone can direct me to it. I do see the 180 MRX in .308, 06, 300WM and 300WSM on the Ballistic charts.

168 gr TSX 75.0 gr IMR4831 Fed 215M 3300 fps
180 gr TSX 76.5 gr RL22 Fed 215M 3100 fps
200 gr TSX 78.5 gr H1000 Fed 215M 2900 fps

Start a little lower and work up, pressure may vary in your gun, but those are the accuracy nodes I have found.

They have them at P&D in edonton, $28.00 cdn for 20 bullets. I can wait to try them, I can't imagine them being worth 505 more than TSX.

I have killed elk with the 140gr 277 caliber old Barnes X bullet. Never recovered a bullet, and all dead elk.

The 270 has never been marginal for elk. No matter what the armchair guys say. Put a bullet in the right spot and they will die.

The super premium bullets jhave made every cartridge better.

I have been in on/killed elk with 243 Win-375 H&H. They all worked, but I personally prefer a 338 caliber or bigger on elk.

Woods Thanks, I am going to try those loads. I am getting my rifle back tomorrow and it is sporting a new barrel, maybe this time it will like Barnes' bullets. I need to work up a load for my Mt. deer hunt this fall.
