A senseless cartridge,

taylorce1A senseless cartridge,
But I'm enjoying it! I picked up a new rifle last week.
Well new to me anyway, found this one on Armslist and picked it up Friday. Came with the case, 148 rounds of ammunition, Nikon P300 scope, rings, bi-pod, Leapers bi-pod adapter, and CMMG SV brake. I'll probably loose the brake soon as I really don't like them, but the rifle was amazingly quiet even with it on. The 220 grain subsonics didn't sound any louder than a high velocity .22 lr does with my hearing protection on.
I shot it last Saturday with Snellstrom's youngest son. I don't know if I like the P- 300 scope, I'm not sure about the BDC reticle. However, I had a blast ringing steel after I got the scope dialed in close enough to work. I had fun ringing steel the rest of time I was at the range, never missed a 4X4 plates or the 6" rounds at 100 yards.
Here is the first group I shot with the rifle, Remington 120 grain OTM ammunition.
I got cocky and the second wasn't nearly as good.
Set up a 12X12 plate at 300 today and tried the BDC Reticle out. First group on steel was a little high.
Adjusted down and held on the 297 yard hash mark acoording to Nikon's ballistic App, a bit happier where the bullets were hitting. I need to shoot the ammo across a chrony to get it dialed in better. The P-300 scope sucks for precision aiming, it covers a lot of target.

I have my suppressors. All but one of my nfa items is awaiting a tax stamp.
I am swimming in 30 cal cans.
I just need to take the rifle to the gunsmith for the scope.
This seems like a perfect combo. Really like the report.

enySuppressor, thermal vision, and CEB subsonic bullets and you have a sensible night time predator control inside 100 yards if you need (want) such a tool.

I want a suppressor and that'll be in my near future, thermal is a ways off.

Ray BBack in the day- when only the military has Starlight scopes and such, a friend of mine in rural Washington State had a pig operation that was infested by rats. My solution was to take a very accurate 270 win, Ruger 77, cast some 130 grain flat nose bullets for it and load them to about 800 fps. They were still loud enough for the rats to hear them, but virtually silent to anyone more than 50 yards away. Getting the rats was a real challenge. The fenced in area for the pigs was dimly lit, which was light enough for the rats to go about their business of digging into the grain, but they learned quickly when there was that quiet thump of the 270, particularly if one of their comrades keeled over, that they needed to go- generally for the remainder of the night. the next night they'd generally return, playing the odds that the rat that was to get shot wouldn't be them; and they may not have had a lot of other options for getting a ready available food supply.
I suppose the 300 Blackout would fill in the same duties and now it would be a lot higher tech than the downloaded 270 40 years ago.

StonecreekI had a donor Sako L46 rebarreled to .300 Blackout. From its super skinny 21" barrel I get 2170 fps with a Hornady 130 spire point, and it shoots into sub-MOA groups at 100 yards. Zeroed for about 150 yards with these loads it is very close to dead-on at 50 yards with 220 grain subsonics. I'm enjoying the little bugger.
All I've killed with it so far is a handful of hundred dollar bills, but it should make a fine short range deer gun.

MJinestaylorce1,
Pick up a
Glade's Armory tactical bolt handle to install on the rifle. Easy to install and looks great.

I've looked at them. While I wouldn't mind a slightly larger bolt handle, i don't care for the styles they are offering. I would like one similar to the SSS one I use on my Savage rifles.

Lamarthat's just like the one the wife shoots.
except the scope.
yours looks like it shoots about as well as she shoots hers too.
they do real well with 110gr varmint type bullets.
she has made some good shots on P-doga and ground squirrels out that far using the little bullets sped up into the 2400 fps area.

Rick RThere was a gent at the range last week with a Ruger American Rifle in .300Blk with a Vortex scope. I watched him put three rounds touching at 100 yards using the Remington/Barnes super sonic OTM load. He fired three groups at that range dialing the scope in and none were over an inch CtC.
I shot my buck last season with 16" AR chambered in .300Blk and it did the job nicely. I used a 125gr SST loaded over W296. I've also used a 247gr cast bullet over enough W296 to be just subsonic and it's about as loud as a .22 Match round. I really need to get a suppressor.
It's really a fun little caliber and quite accurate.

It isn't a bolt action .30-30, I discovered that on a few years ago.
