ilwAntonio Zoli O/U double in 9.3 x 74R
Hi
I don't know alot about this gun. Any info would be helpful.
Is this calibre O.K. for DG?
I would like to get a double for a DG hunt in the future.
Any thoughts??
Thanks

browningguyIn some countries in Africa I understand that they have a .375 caliber minimum which would leave the 9.3's out for DG. However the 9.3x74 will do fine if it's legal. It's really a superb heavy medium caliber round.
It would make a great rifle for big bears.

Depends what you define as DG. I would not consider it for elephant, but would probably be ok for lion. Could take buffalo, but would not be my choice (I’m talking cape, would be ok for the smaller buff of central Africa).
I understand the 9.3x74 is primarily intended for European boar and I expect it would be superb in that application.

ozhunterI am not to familiar with the Zoli but have been told it is good quality for it's price and is common in 9.3x74R.
This gun would be great for plains Game and driven game and as it can be hand loaded to my 9.3x62's velocities= 286GRN Woodliegh soft and solid bulits at 2300+FPS I would have no hesitation to take it after big game other than cow Elephant.

N E 450 No2I have shot quite a bit of game with my 9,3x74R Chapuis Double.
From beaver and bobcat, black bear to waterbuck and kudu.
It has been an exellent killer. I like 286 grain bulletrs the best.
I carried solids for elephant and cape buff in case of an emergency. I think it is a little light for buff and elephant, but will do the job with good hits, and nothing does a good job with bad hits.

Me too. It is lighter than the .375 H&H, which is my idea of a bare minimum for Cape Buffalo or anything larger.

ilwHi
Thanks for all of the feedback. I am looking for a 'starter gun' for DG. So even though it is a great calibre it sounds a little light.
AR is such a great source of information. Thank you gentlemen!!
I will keep looking.

We, at least I, did not mean to discourage you from the 9,3x74R.
I would rather have my double 9,3 on buff and elephant than ANY bolt 375.
If you can shoot your 9,3 good you will do OK.
I will try and shoot a crop raiding bull/and or a cow elephant this March in ZIM. With 286 gr Woodleigh Solids of course.
I killed a 383 lb black bear in Canada at 12 yards with the 9,3 with 286 gr Nosler Partitions.
If you like the Zoli, get it, the 9,3x74R is a GREAT calibre.

ilwNo need to worry about the discouragement part. I have only seen pictures of the gun. It looks nice a gun. I know it has been for sale for a while and I could likely get it for a good price.
I don't know alot about doubles and I don't think there are alot around in Canada, so when I saw this forsale I was interested. I am not in a hurry and want to get the right gun. I might have a chance to see it in a couple weeks.
Thanks for your help. Good luck with your hunt to ZIM!!
