6.5BRRichard Proenneke, can anyone tell me...
what rifle he used in Alaska? This is the guy who lived up there from 1968-1998, One Man's Wilderness was a book and movie about this guy.
Looked to me like a sporterized Springfield, 30-06 of course.
Book doesn't say...

6.5BRI don't have his book, but saw the movie last night and I 'presumed' it might be a '06 and it looked like it might have had a peep sight.
Any details that anyone has would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Prewar70Alaska forum might know more but whatever it was he didn't use it much if at all after he shot the ram.

lefty315I read the book, amazing story. Too bad it only covers the first 16 or so months. In the book I remember it to be a Springfield .30-06. If you buy it off the internet the book is around $15.00, well worth the money.

lefty315Yep, I found it on page 23. Dick calls it a converted Army Springfield in .30-06. He also had a .357. Once in awhile you can see it hanging on his hip in the follow up movie on some of the older footage. Hope this helps.
Well there ya go, haven't read the book in many years and never remembered him saying.
As an aside, his book "One Man's Wilderness" is back in print in softcover...
