WinkWhat factory 9.3 X 62 ammo available?
What factory loaded 9.3 X 62 ammo is available in the USA? Any recommendations?

458WinS&B and Parti Privi both make 9.3x62 ammo and is sold by Midway and Graffs. I have been using it for all season and think it should do well for almost any application.

In my view both S&B and PP should be limited to large deer. I don't, know but I suspect, they would not perform well in large bear. I for one, would not like to test them on anything which might want to grab my tender body. A well placed x62 is enough for bruin with a premium bullet.
Just my 2c worth.
Ya'll use what you like on what you want.

TreeFarmerFactory ammo is also available from Norma, Lapua, and Nosler. I like the 270 grain Lapua Naturalis in my CZ 550.

Matt NormanNever tried the Norma, but I found the S&B and P-P underloaded. Over a chrony I could easily get 150 fps more with my handloads with no excessive pressure signs. 150 fps with a heavy bullet is a lot.

sierra2The 9.3x62mm is a great handloaders cartridge, although it is severely restricted by bullet availability. Nosler is the main US bullet maker, with a small availability from Speer. RWS makes some marvelous bullets, but they are extremely difficult to find in the USA. I found a small supply of RWS 254 grain H-Mantles which will probably last me forever, and it's a super bullet. Had a report this week of a shooter punching a 286 grain Nosler thru five feet of Elk for a one shot kill. Not bad for a 100 year old cartridge.

Andre MertensFor heavy game, I would recommend RWS 193 TUG or Blaser 286 CDP. Both are very hard, partitioned bullets, with tremendous penetration.

<JOHAN>Wink,
Winchester offers 9,3X62 loaded with 286 grain partitions in Europe; hopefully this ammo is available in USA. Norma PH line with heavy bullets should be the ticket for heavy game. RUAG CDP bullet is a great bullet (Blaser label is just sales crap from blaser)

verhoositzDoes anybody load and have experince with 9.3 250 grain and 286 grain Barnes TSX's?

WinkI guess I'll try a couple boxes of the Nosler Custom Ammo and compare it with the Winchester. They've got the same bullets, should produce the same results.

dutchgusHave a look at
www.sako.fi. They load 286 grains Partitions and 250 grains Barnes X in 9,3 and the US dealers are listed on the site.

Charles_HelmFor handloaders there are always
North Fork Bullets. For loaded ammo in a dazzling number of variations, there is
Superior Ammo. Not cheap, but most premium ammo is not cheap.
Edit: Wink may not have access to either of these where he is. I have used Norma Oryx factory loads in the 9.3x74R on one animal and was pleased, but it was not much of a test. They are fairly soft and I would not want to push them too fast.

Robert LindbergIt´s surprising that nobody here have mentioned the marvelous Swift A-frame: Swift Bullet company offer two weights, 250 and 300 grains. I have only used the 250 grainer, but i´m satisfied with the results. The 300 grainer might be too hard for the 62cartridges velocity but its a vild guess from my side. I shot a 800 pound moose this morning with a factory loaded norma oryx 285 grain at a distance of ca 60 yards and yes, they are a little bit to soft. Some parts were hamburgerized. I think that a 250 grs Swift A-Frame would make a better job.

458WinI tried the 300 gr Swift bullets in both of my 9.3x62 rifles but as they are "bumped down" 375 bullets they carry their diameter too far forward and could not be chambered when crimped on the cannalure. When I seated them a little deeper they gave good accuracy and 2350fps. Like all Swift bullets they should be superb and I'll probably have the throats in my rifles lengthened in order to use them.
I havn't tried the 300 Woodleigh bullets but a recent e-mail from my son in Zambia said he used them in a 9.3x74 Dakota #10 to shoot a couple of Cape Buffalo and at 2100fps they gave
full penetration on broadside shots.
In the what-it's-worth department I can tell you that the 286 Partitions @ 2350 fps worked superbly on one big bear this spring. John Barsness also told me that 286 gr Partitions tend to outpenetrate the 250 TSX bullets.

If memory serves, (increasingly it doesn't

) P-P 9.3x62 286 grain rounds are loaded at the original velocity of 2175 fps. So yes, it is possible to exceed it by 150 fps without incuring pressure problems. Current Norma ammunition is, I think, loaded at about 2350 fps.
I have been wrong before, my wife tells me so.

9.3 riflemanI have had great luck with the Lapua Naturalis 270 grain factory load. It is available from Midway but it is very expensive. This load is very accurate in my rifle.

458WinBoth the factory S&B and PP ammo with 286 gr bullets gave velocities between 2250fps and 2300fps in both of my 22" bl rifles. Both bullets held together reasonably well ( they are simple, basic bullets but fired at reasonable velocities) and I wouldn't be afraid to hunt anything in the US with them, including bears. However I would prefer a top quality bullet when after any dangerous game.

Whilst at a local sports shop yesterday I looked up the P-P ammo pamphlet.
Guess what? My memory was not quite right. The published figure for the 9.3x62 is 2185fps.
To be getting 2250fps indicatess you have a fast 22"barrel.
Happy Hunting.

mrfuddverhoositz,
I have taken a small whitetail, mountain zebra, hartebeast, oryx and kudu with the 250 gr tripleshocks in my 9.3x62. I have yet to recover one.

Check out the link to Graf & Sons website on Lawndart's post. I just bought two boxes of the Naturalis ammo for almost $10 less per box than Midway! Thanks for the link Lawndart!

Grafs also carries the Naturalis 270 grain bullet. They must be good; they are $1.30 USD per bullet

Dr. DucI have used Nosler Partition 286gr with Norma 201 (54.6gr) for about 5 years. Norma says this load is 2370 but I suspect it is a little slower. It shoots well in every rifle I ever tried it in. I use La pua brass and Win WLR primers. It shoots to the same point of impact as my Hunting Bud's IMR load of 4895 -56 gr. He chronied his at 2350.
The Norma load shoots level at 200 yds and 8" low at 300 if it is 2" high at 100 yds. As I remember it is 20 or so inches low at 400. I don't use it that far.
The Privi Partisan load shoots about 6" higher than this load out of all three of my rifles. It seems to be an accurate load but I don't know about the bullet

Thebear_78Dr. Duc-
That seems to be a littel too flat shooting for the 9.3 at those velosities. I shoot the 286gr partition at a chrono'd 2400 +/- 5fps and sited dead on at 200 leaves me 3" high at 100 and just over 11" low at 300, 400 would be close to 30" low. You would have to be pushing 2700fps to get 2" high at 100, zero at 200, and -8.5 at 300. That would be pretty impressive performance.
20 October 2006, 06:47
Dr. DucYou may be right. I know it is 2" high at 100 and right on at 200. My buddy figured 8" low at 300 after a shot on a kudu at a measured 286 yds. I think I got the figure from the Nosler ballistic tables for a velocity of 2370. I do know I wouldn't attempt a 400 yd shot with it but it shoots minute of elk out to 300 yds.:-)
