Hello friends, I know I going to say I'm crazy. You know that I bought a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Weatherby but I soon sold it, first because 24 inch barrel for firing the cartridge did not convince me then is because I wanted to buy a shotgun skeet.<BR><BR>But now again I'm saving for a long-range rifle, and I thought about buying a rifle cartridge 300 RUM (Remington Ultra Magnum), which makes me doubt it is the rifle that I will choose, so I ask advice:<BR><BR>Remington 700 BDL-<BR><BR>-Remington SPS<BR><BR>-Remington Sendero<BR><BR>I await your answers. Ovny, A Sendero is probably the best choice. The rifle's weight will help take the recoil, so you could shoot it without a brake.

I have one of the sendero's in .300 RUM and it is a tack driver. Also have one of their heavy barrel .300 RUM's that came in a laminated stock and it also is a tackdriver. If I do my job, it definitely is a one hole gun at 100 for 5 shots. Can't go wrong.

Rick, Is that the LSS? (Laminated stock, stainless)

Mine is one of the Winchester 70 Sporter runs. ITs never been shot though...... The 300 H +H will not let it out of the safe!

Remingtons have the added feature of also being able to fire by taking the safety off.

Every single gun maker has had at one time or another, a recall for some thing. I actually have a .458 that did that very same mis-fire and tracking the serial number to that same era where they had a bad run with the triggers. I replaced it with a Timney and it is a great rifle.

Most of my rifles are Remingtons and that is the only one I have ever had a problem with.

No Jon, I think it is one of the older Sendero's that isn't fluted but it does have the Laminated stock. I have changed the stock to a synthetic with a longer length of pull.
They are shooters for sure.

Thank you very much for your reply, I believe that in Spain the Remington trail is the only one I've found in cartridge 300 RUM, therefore I am great. I'm still saving, as I had to make life LOL. That penalty being poor.

Ovny, my 300 RUM is the LSS in LH. When I bought it there was a brake on the end of the barrel, but the rifle came with a cover so the brake could be removed.

I have now shot the rifle without the brake, and it just isn't that bad. In fact, I am probably going to have the threads taken off and the rifle re-crowned.

True: you will know you have shot a moderately recoiling rifle, and you won't want to shoot 20 at a time from a bench (couldn't do that anyway; the barrel would be toast!), but in my estimation you don't need a brake.

Thank you, I had no thought to make rifle muzzle brake. From what I have read if that rather reduces recoil, however increases much the noise caused by the shooting.

I would refuse, politely, of course, a Remington as a gift.

I had the LSS 300RUM and it was a good shooter. I traded it for a 300win because I had components for it. Now that powder and brass are available I want a 300rum sendero. Mine was unbraked and wasn't bad to shoot.

Well, if that is you in love with Winchester and seems to have a terrible hatred for Remington. I have a Remington 700 BDL 338 Winchester Magnum cartridge and the only thing I do not like is that you can operate the bolt when the rifle is safe.

I found a Remington BDL in 7mm RUM cartridge that I dislike either, it is also quite affordable compared to the track, I imagine that the trail leads custom elements such as fluted barrel or heavy barrel, trigger etc ... But special I think the Remington BDL would have more than enough. Then I ahorrase money to buy me a viewer a little better and ammunition.

I like Remington 700's for several reasons but most of all is the availability of great aftermarket parts

I had one of the original Senderos, not the new shiny barrel ones. The only thing I did was put in a Jewell trigger (turns out I like the feel of the Timney's better), but the new models may have the new/better Rem 700 trigger.

It was damn accurate with factory ammo - it really shot the Remington 180 gr Scirocco factory ammo well, <.25" group; also did really well with the Federal 180 gr TBBC at the time, now they have a Trophy Bonded Tip.

I thought the recoil was too much for the range - very sharp, not a push like a big bore DG round. I had a Vias brake installed. I kept it from 2002 to 2012. Took a number of deer, hogs, and sheep in Texas, an Oryx in New Mexico (415 yards), and a bunch of antelope in South Africa on my first trip there.

I eventually sold it because I thought the barrel with the brake was too long and the rifle was too heavy. I got a 300 Weatherby barrel for my Mauser M03. 25" long, light profile, but haven't shot it. I may magnaport it like I did on my 375 H&H barrel. The recoil on the 375 H&H wasn't bad, just A LOT of muzzle jump due to the thin profile barrel. The magnaport held it down and you can crank away now without loosing sight picture of your target.

Net, I think the 300 RUM is a dang good round. I think a <8 lb rifle with magnaporting would be ideal. 26" barrel is must have.

I'd say a Sendero with a Timney trigger!!!

I bought the Winchester 70 for $569.00 US. This was right before USRA went out of business. There was a single run of the 300UM. They are available now on the used market. I am positive there are new old stock available in the marketplace. Many people like to re-barrel this gun to a larger bore.

Hello friends and thanks for your replies, I was also considering the possibility of choosing the rifle in caliber 7 RUM because I have a rifle in 338 Winchester cartridge and perhaps the most reasonable step down to be a 7 mm. What do you think?
