What's the difference between the new hawkeye and the old 77MKII? They look pretty much the same to me.

different finish on the stainless. different stock, different recoil pad, different trigger.
extractor is full length non rotating mauser style. control round feeding. i think the older ones were push fed.
all the rugers are now cold hammer forged barrels.
i'd like to hear from someone who has shot one .

RIP has about twenty-seven thousand I think, from his endless posting half of them are 375R's. They are all sub-1/2moa out to 2400yds or so with Hornady factory ammunition. All you need to know!

just for some clarificaton, the MkII was also a CRF, the older tang safety models, that were discontinued around 91 were push feed models. I beleive it was sometime in the 80's that ruger switched to making their own barrels, which they still do today

A little further clarifacation.
The early mak 2s were push feed. the design looks like a CRF. But if you watch the cartridge go into the chamber you will see the extractor does not grab the round till you turn the bolt.
I do not know when they changed over to a tue CRF, but I am glad they did.

They went to CRF w/ MkII action. Prior to the MkII they had a claw that cliped over the rim when the action closed.

Some of the early MArk IIs still were not CRF. And the claw only grabbed the cartridge when the bolt was closed. I have one of thesein 300 win mag. It is a VERY accurate rifle as is & I will be keeping it as is. NOt being a CRF gun does not matter to me at all for hunting deer & elk here in North America.
