In Nosler #5 they got up to 2963 fps but with a 24" barrel.

Check at www.shortmags.org

i have all the new reloading manuals, i want to know the velocities in a 22 inch barrel, not what i can get with a 24. i wanted to know how much velocity i will be losing

Did you read and join over at shortmags.org or not?

Figure 25 fps for each inch of barrel either way. Not enough to worry about is it. I am making a 300 WSM up and I can select any barrel length and it seems it will be 22".

As with any other cartridge, attainable velocities will vary from gun to gun and with the amount of pressure that you are willing to load to.I load for several cartridges and know of rifles with identical barrel lengths that vary in excess of 200fps because of these factors. Some guns have barrels that produce more velocity than others at equal pressures and some people load to pressures that other people would consider excessive and in some cases dangerous. As such I would not assume that a specific gun will produce certain velocities just because another gun in the same chambering with the same barrel length produces them.
