New Savage Barrel Idea!
Well after having such good luck on the 7/08 project for my Savage Single Shot short action I picked up from TikkaNut on the classifieds, I am getting the bite for the versatility on these actions....

I was out shooting a Ruger 77 Mk 2 I have that has a 24 inch fast twist barrel on it.. was shooting 75 grain A Maxes...Chambering is in a 22.250..

What I got into my head is the thought of doing a barrel on the Savage like that, but with what I saw they were selling for the F Class....

One inch diameter stainless steel barrel.... 30 inch length...

Figured that would take a while to heat up, plus that length would certainly add some velocity potential.... not to say that the barrel could probably be rechambered a dozen times also...

plus ought to look pretty darn coooool also!
just like those 30 inch Barreled Savage Factory Target Rifles..

so seriously thinking of ordering one and sit down for the long wait... but it should be worth it when done...

I get 3350 fps out of the 24 inch barrel on the Ruger, so a 30 inch ought to get me a 100 to 150 fps more I assume.. BOOM

In the same caliber, 7-08?
I have a Ruger 10-22 with a 30" barrel... Big Grin

I'm confused...what caliber? You can do better than 75 Amaxes, go for 90 grain bergers, .552 BC!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

Check the website for McGowan rifle barrels. They make, among other things, barrels specifically for Savage refits, in almost any caliber, length, twist rate, etc., that you can imagine.

Regards,
Bill.

Bill,

Living here in Oregon, I have an allegence to Pac Nor over here in Brookings...

My wallet has an attraction to ER Shaw for obvious reasons...

however Shaw doesn't make 30 inch barrels..

however thanks for the tip..I'll check out McGowen's web site...
