Oh my, my, my...my good friend from across the pond... I bark at ye to the contre..The mighty M1 Garand and the righteous M1A are not to toil with. The stuffy bite of the Enfield does play havoc and has many-a-notch upon its rugged underbelly, but to get the job, the garand has no equal. And for the M14/M1A, it's underbelly is full.....

MMMI have become a CZ man, for my money they are awfully hard to beat. I have a 550 Magnum in .375 worked over by Hill Country Rifles, a 550FS in 6.5 x 55, another FS in 9.3 x 62, and a 550 American in 9.3 x 62 that I bought from Bill/Oregon. They all shoot very well right out of the box, I like the triggers, stocks feel the same, safeties are in the same place, and they look good too.

br6ppc1I like my Browning A-Bolts, with Winchester M70's a close second. Remington M700 is in third, but I do have a M700 CDL 35 Whelen that's a sweet rifle

BlacktailerWho shoots factory rifles? I haven't shot anything that didn't need modification to some degree (LOP, trigger job, etc). Probably closest out of the box is Kimber. Maybe M70 next, once it has been breathed on.

The question was what is the best BOLT ACTION hunting rifle and the opinion offered as to the best bolt action military rifle was correct. The Canadian-designed Garand self-loading rifle has it's points, but, it ain't a bolt action.
No offence, bud, but I hope you shoot better than you read!

We are brothers. My CZs are the 550 FS in 9.3 and 6.5.

TC260In general I don't shoot bolt actions all that much but I have a Colt Sauer that I shoot a fair amount and a Sako that gets out of the safe now and again.

sam308I love my A-Bolts! I also have a Tikka 595 that has about the slickest action of any bolt rifle I've shot. Take into account that I am a southpaw so my choices are somewhat limited. I do have Remingtons, Rugers, and a Savage, but always seem to take a Browning hunting.
The Savage .223 may be the most accurate rifle I own but working the action is like changing a tire.

ted thornI went down the list of my rifles and picked what I didn't like about them.
My Weatherby MK V is heavy and I don't like the safety much and the trigger wasn't nearly as good as the sales add said it would be.
I like my Ruger and it shoots great but the trigger was a tough fix and it‘s heavy (laminated stock).
My Remington 700's are good rifles. The only thing I could find wrong with them was they are both ADL's and have a blind magazine.....fixing that very soon.
My Kimber's all were tough to get to shoot good but I did find loads that would work. The fit and finish are great but the bolt on ALL Kimber rifles bind when you push it forward with any UP pressure at all....this has never hurt me but it peeves me. I do love to hunt with my 84M 7-08 though.
My Browning A-Bolt is the winner!!!!
Detachable magazine and a floorplate..I like this.
60 deg. bolt throw...this is nice
The trigger just needs a lighter spring....easy fix
Light weight and it shoots great....also chambered in a great round, .270 WSM
All and all they are kinda like my children and I love them all…..I do have a favorite or two though.

It's based on the Swedish M 94 small ring Mauser action.
I have bolts in Winchester Mod 70, pre and post 64. Rem 700, and CZ.
Part of my like could be the 7 military Swedish Mausers I also have.
If we could include military models then I might opt for the Swiss K-31 or possibly the Schmidt Rubin 1911

Hmm, modern, maybe, but I'd stick with an FN or even Interarms before lowering myself to using a Santa Barbara.
Nicest modern commercial Mauser action of course being the Brno 21/22 series.
I'm quite fond of my Mauser type S in 7x57.

wympleI am partial to my model 800 Mossberg. My nicest rifle is a model 14 Savage Classic. I don't run in high dollar circles, but those 2 shoot.

NakihunterMy favourite is actually the old classic Mannlicher Schoenauer action - 1903 to 1910 models which were basically the same action with different calibers. For practical purpose I chose the Winchester Mod 70. But the Kimber M84 is also one I like. I also love the Sako AV and the Tikka LSA 55 actions. A good German Mauser 98 for the big bore calibers.

Conservative RiflemanFor wet hard going hunting I now prefer the Kimber 84M Montana's. They are lightweights, SS-Syn and have features that I demand such as CRF and a M70 type three position safeties. For a modern magnum I have the Kimber Montana WSM's.
I started in the early 50's with a Rem. 722 which to me now is a cheap, dull, poor design. Later in 57 I got my first M70 and soon after a complete battery of them. In the 60's I added 99 Savages for the woods.
Now I have Brno 21 and 22 F's and H's along with custom Mausers.
When its nice out and its not that far to go I like to carry a nice rifle. Of late a Mauser has my eye.

olarmyI'm a M70 guy, but I am really surprised to see the M70 ahead of the M700. Always thought the M700 was the most popular.
