my No. 1 in .270? The .270 is a fine round but I want something different. Can it be rebored/rechambered to a .300H&H? Can I go bigger? I don't think I want to rebarrel it but for what I have into it that is a possibility. Any thoughts I guess I want something diffrent with a British/African flair to it.

The solution to your problem is simple. Buy a Ruger #1H in either .375 H&H, .404 Jeffery, (if you can find one, or the .416 Rigby. My suggestion would be the .375. Ammo is a hell of a lot cheaper than the others. Take my word on that one as I have all three. it's roughly $6.00 a pop with the Rigby if you don't reload. Then your .270 can be your light rifle, and the .375 your heavy.
My feeling is one can never own enough Ruger #1's. I'm looking for number 16, nuff said?
Seriously though, you could probably do a rebore. I just wonder if the shoulder area on the .270 is larger than the place where the .300 H&H's case would be. The cost of a rebarrel is another factor. My gunsmith does a Mauser for $360, but wants $400 for a #1. I have one in 6MM Rem. that has a bad barrel and I'm considering either a rebore or rebarrel to .35 Whelen.
Frankly, if your #1 is a good shooter, I'd leave it be. Too many of them have turned out to be a bit temperamental.

Hi Paul, I already have a .375H&H, a CZ 550 American(love it!). The .270 is great but common. I am looking to have something diffrent, problem is I don't think a .270 can be rechambered to any thing else, can it? My best bet might be to sell it and go with the .416 or .458. Neither is that useful around here though.

Well, fireman, I didn't mean to sound like a smartass. I guess what I was really saying is you already have about as good as you can get for the 270 bore and you didn't want to rebarrel.
So I wasn't sure where you could go.

You COULD rebore the thing, of course, but I've always look as that sorta like driving on recapped tires, i.e. 2nd quality. But what do I know about rebores.

I think what you really want is simply another gun. Which is fine. But don't scrap the good one you already have. Get a mate to go with it.

How about a 318WR? It is not unlike a 338 06.

It is the quintessential British cartridge for non dangerous game.

Deerdogs, what are the specs on that? I have read a little about it, not too much though.
