Upcoming Mauser 98 DWM?

Mauser USA's instragram page is showing a picture of a new rifle called M98 DWM, described as the return of a legend. Do you know anything about this? What's different between it and their current M98 rifles?

Oh man - that would be cool as long as it's not as expensive as their other 98s. Keep below $3K.

YEP - it's back as a version of their M98 line. On the website. Hope is less $$$$

So, with the gas port/thumb cut, will they import them? I thought there was some ridiculous law about not importing rifles with this as it was supposed to be part of a quick-loading/military feature??

I dig it though. It would be awesome to have a reasonably (realistically) priced new Mauser.

I can't tell what kind of finish is on these rifles. Some pictures look stainless?

Probably glare? Mauser uses a Black Nitride finish on most (if not all) of their new rifles. Maybe they would leave some parts SS on the DWM?

I'd start with a 8x57.

Starting with 8x57 will insure you do not sell any rifles.
Just my take, given the number of 8mm requests I get.
Total; one in the last 20 years.

I'd start with a 8x57 as in that's the first rifle I would buy. Great round that we Americans do not appreciate.

Yeah. I handled the current Mausers at the NRA show in Dallas. I know they are the nitride. So if it is that finish, I don't think glare would account for that look.

It must be stainless. I have been wanting a stainless Mauser in a bad kind of way.

Thinking nitride, I can't be sure what did it, but the nitrided receiver of my Heym gained a dark patina in just one week of carrying. I wouldn't mind so much but had put electrical tape over most of it to protect it, so only the hinge-pin area changed.

I suspect the silicon-impregnated cloth the PH lent me.

That's weird. Black nitride is as close to superman as you can get. I hit the end of my muzzle on the ceiling of my concrete gun room on accident. i thought "o f---" and then I looked at it with a magnifying glass there was not a single scratch or imperfection on it - not even dusty. Sort of like my sapphire face crystal on my Suunto watch.

If that rifle sells for say $3,000. I would buy it in a heartbeat. If it's stainless I would Roguard it.

Appears to me the rifle is two-toned. SS or silver nitrided receiver, bottom metal, and bands. Bolt, barrel, floorplate release, and bolt stop spring perhaps black nitrided. Not sure I like that. Certainly not fond of the gaudy DWM banner stamps/engravings. Note the receiver ring appears to be contoured to mirror the rear bridge with flats.

Thanks for the links and additions. Nothing in what I saw leads me to believe it's a lower priced rifle. Probably the same deal as their current $10k M98, only with an action styled after Mausers of a certain period.

For the money I'd certainly choose the beautiful and fully made in-house Heym Express

After talking with a Mauser rep, I believe this DWM has a price tag of around $20k and is more of a one off than a new line.

So kind of the opposite of what I would really like to see. A stainless or nitrided Mauser barreled action in a synthetic of some type. A rifle built for hard work with the rugged reliability inherent in the Mauser design. A modern built Mauser like that is alway going to be expensive, but I'd like to be able to buy it without also having to pay for fancy wood.

It can't be done; only in former East Bloc countries can Mausers be built to compete with the mass produced rifles in the US.
