I purchased a box of Nosler Balistic Tips recently in .243, 90 grain, and was surprised to find they were solid base. I have Balistic Tips in several other calibers and they are all boat tails. Another surprise was the Hornady .243 95gr. SST. Not only is it a solid base but has a cannelure.
I had never seen a cannelure on that light a bullet. Well, live and learn I guess. Best wishes.

In the new Federal loadings, they are offering the Nosler Solid base bullet. How does this bullet stack up with the likes of the Hornady Interlock, Grand Slam or Speer Hot Cor? Are there any pros or cons? I am considering them primarily from my .30-06. Thanks for any insights.

I have used the Nosler Solid Base bullets years ago in my .243 and 30-06. I was one who was sorry to see them replaced by the Ballistic Tips. In my opinion, they hold together better than the Ballistic Tips, but maybe not quite as accurate. Should work very well in standard calibers, magnum velocities and close ranges may lead to core/jacket separations. I would not hesitate to use them on medium game in standard velocity cartridges.
