Thanks for taking the time, but i don�t have any pictures to post (no digital camera).
Caliber is 9x57 Mauser stamped on the barrel next to the serial no is: 8,85H
and on
the underside of the barrel
S U F 108.49
BS 8,85.9,1.360 M

The barrel lengt is 23 1/2 inches, underlever magazine release,1 standing and two folding leaves sight (removed by the previous owner) I might be able to get them back.
The front sight is mounted on a simple ramp.
The grip cap is steel but I am not sure if its original because its a hair or two larger than the wood.
Magazine box is 3 1/3 inches long (84mm).
Double set triggers.
The stock is checkered only at the pistol
grip, maybe it once was a mannlicher type stock.
The barrel is in excellent condition and the bolt face indicates that the rifle have been shot very little.

Sounds like a nice one. Pistol grip cap may have the last few #'s of serial number stamped underneath. It is not unusual that it appears larger than the stock - wood shrinks with age, yours is 91 years old. Many old military mausers have buttstocks much smaller than the buttplates due to shrinkage. Also, the forearm was not checkered on many of these rifles - mine is the same way.

By all means try to get the sights back - if no luck, NECG (www.newenglandcustomgun.com) sells close approximations. Any other details - round barrel, octagon, full length rib, etc.? Roundtop receiver, square bridge, etc.? Any extra holes (hope not)?

If only I were so lucky, drilled and tapped (no square bridge in sight) and the safety is changed to 1/4, and the misery continues, some idiot jewelled the bolt, follower,extractor and removed the blueing on the bolt handle.

I think You are right, (i tried to remove the grip cap but it is stuck, and i don�t want to see if luck is on my side) should have thought about the shrinking.

Round barrel and the buttplate seems like the original, (I have no idea if its plastic or horn) and the screws are in line.

Good news my friend, all that damage can be repaired. Polish the bolt up to 300 - 400 grit with automotive sandpaper in the longitudinal direction, then buff-buff-buff with 4-0 steel wool, which instead of a mirror finish gives you a nice hazy matte. Then have someone rust blue it. Chuck the safety as far as you can (hopefully no slot in the shroud) and swap in a military flag.

Holes in the receiver are a little more complicated, but can be repaired invisibly. PM me if you want details on that...
