280 Winchester!
Found a neat little gun chambered in "280 Winchester" today. Must be a special edition, sinceit was also the only M70 "Classic" I'd seen with a PF bolt!! Prolly worth a laaaaaaat of money!
In fact, I think it was the little "youth" stock. Did they ever chamber that in 280? Cute little gun. Wish it actually was CRF.
Tried "discussing" it with the salesman, e.g., "what's the difference between the 280 Winchester and the 280 Remington? Is that like the 284 Winchester?" "More like the Remington but made by Winchester." Interesting indeed.

A far as I know there never was such a cartridge. Did you actually see the rifle stamped .280Win. or is the gunstore guy telling you such?

if it's a push feed it's not a classic.....and if it's a 280 it's not a 280 winchester.....there is no such thing.

Go back to the store and confirm that it's a 7-08 compact featherweight.

Sorry guys. Guess I wasn't clear.
It was a PF M70 in 280 Rem, but the guy had no idea what he was talking about. It was fun.

The guy that sold me my .30-06 IN 1978 told me it was a .30-06 remington. He was half right, it was a model 700 Rem. I tried to explain it but after a few attempts I just smiled politely and paid my $190 or so and thanked him. He told the next guy that the rifle he was fondling was a .243 remington, lol.

I went back and reread your original post and now it makes sense.....

There sure are a few doorknobs in the gun industry.....It seems a lot of them work on Remington's website.

Hell, I thought you'd found a Model 70 chambered in .280 REM, but STAMPED "
.280 Winchester"
. I believe such a faux pas would make it a collector's item!

I once owned a .280 Rem in the push feed M70 Featherweight style. But I sold it and purchased a M70 CLASSIC (CRF) in .280 Rem in the featherweight style. Try and find a few of those nowadays.
