Does anyone have this rifle and what do you think about it?

As much as I don't like Savage I have read good reports about it. It is supposed to be as accurate an out of box rifle as one could hope for.

I really have never understood why people don't like Savage rifles. I have not dealt with that particular rifle, but I have never seen a Savage that did not shoot well. Their new rifles are really decent with lots of choices. I shoot only their left-hand rifles.

I've only held one and I don't like it. I was a late comer to the Savage fan club unless you were talking Model 99's. I bought my first Savage rifle a Steven's 200 a couple of years ago to rebarrel into a 6x47 Rem.

The rifle shoots great, but the problem for me is after market stocks in the center feed action, there are not many available. Pretty much any aftermarket part made for a Savage 10/110 will fit right on with no modification. I never shot it as a .223 for fear of not building my rifle, I now own 3 more Stevens rifles and a 110E rifle.

The Axis is the cheaper version of a Savage. Problems I see with this rifle is the stock is the same old injection molded one with no other options in the near future. Plus the recoil lug is part of the stock instead of the receiver. Triggers aren't the greatest and right now the only option I know of is the Rifle Basix. Plus I don't like how the trigger guard is made, or the fact the piece of crap tang that is attached to the trigger assembly and not the receiver again.

I like Savage rifles to play with but give me a plain old Mauser or M70 action rifle anyday for my hard hunting rifles. While I like the accuracy the Savage offers, I'm just not sold yet on there ability to hold up in extreme conditions. There are just too many parts too them, and places where stuff can get into them.

Last year I bought a Stevens 200 in 22-250 and let me tell you, it's light and it's a tack driver with 50 g vmax.

They leave a much to be desired in the saftey and smoothness of bolt operation, but for a $400 rifle with the scope you can't go wrong for yotes.

This rifle will shoot .5 MOA from the bench all day if I do my part.

Great little gun, love it for predetors, nice and light and accurate, sorry if I'm being redundant.

Baloney, I've used Savages in Canada's far north for many years in the crappiest weather and conditions without any problems. Just buy your Savage and forget about it.

if you are looking at the axis may i suggest taking a look at the marlin xs7 also. i recently bought one in a youth model 7mm-08 for my wife. it came with a no name (i assume bushnell) 4-12x40 scope mounted, cleaning kit, and safety glasses for a little under $400 otd. marlin has their own version of the accutrigger and it comes on this model. the trigger is not a competition trigger my any means but it adjusted down nicely and has very little creep at all. the first time out once i had it zeroed it put 3 rounds inside of a 1" bullseye at 100 with hornady superformance. im anxious to see what i can do with some handloads after deer season. all in all i am very pleased with the rifle.
