bartscheUnusual 8x57 marked cases
Was given what appears to be 8x57 military ammo
They are stamped 7.92. 120 degrees from that they are stamped with upper case MM , 120 degrees from that they are stamped 42. Now the kicker**** They seem to have crimped boxer primers.
I've never before seen any of this stuff. Any info out there???

enfieldsparesI suspect that although STAMPED 7.92 they were not destined ever for any Mauser rifle! Even though it is just that same size...
Sounds like you have some ammunition for use in the 7.92mm BESA Tank Machine Gun used by the British in WWII.

Jimmy LowboyAbout 20 years ago I bought 20 rounds of 8mm at a gun show. There were 17 marked 7.92 mm 44, and 3 marked 7.92 mm 42. The vendor was a regular at the show, and a pretty good guy. He told me that the ammo was canadian surplus, boxer and supposedly non corrosive. However he said to clean for corrosive anyway.I bought a case of turk shortly after and didn't need it to reload. Still have it.Guess I wasted my $5.
