First ShotConvert Browning BAR to 35 Whelen?
Is is possible to convert a Browning BAR to 35 Whelen? Would you just have the esisting barrel rebored or would you get a replacement barrel? If reboring, which would be better to start with a 30-06 or a 338 Win Mag? Where would you get a replacement barrel in 35 Whelen?
Thanks

ConMight be better to post in the Gunsmithing forum for a definitive response.
But ... before our Govt banned such things, there were a few BARs in Australia rebored/rebarrelled to such calibers as the 35Whelen, 9.3x62, and 458WM. I only ever was lucky enough one day at the range to get a look at a 458WM that had begun life as a 300WM. A 30-06 BAR should be a relatively easy conversion to 35Whelen. Whether you rebore or rebarrel is a matter of choice, finances and whether your willing to take a risk on a "bad" rebore job.
Cheers...

El DeguelloRebore a .30/'06! That'd be all you'd have to do, as the bolt face and magazine, etc., remain the same and the barrel is right for the forend channel and gas system already.
I've done two such jobs, a .33 Win. M1886 to .45/70, and an M71 Win. 348 to .450 Alaskan. Both turned out more accurate than they had been in their original calibers, and there are a lot of good rebore people in the U.S. today! The main problem with reboring is the WAITING to get the gun back!!
