I am looking to replace the scope on my RSI 30-06 and was thinking about a compact in 2.5 to 7 or somewhere in that range.
Any recommentations on what works well

Just 1 mans opinion here but I think manlichers look and work great with a 20 mm objective. I don't know how much you want to spend , but my 1st choice would be a 1.5x5 Leupold at 400 or a 1x4 at 300.00. burris has a FF2 thats is right around 200 on midway and theres a nikkon monarch in a low power 20mm. But if you prefer a standard counfigureation, a 1.75X6 or a 2.5x8 in the vx3s or a 2.7 in the VX2s would be cool...tj3006

I just put a 2.5-8 Leupold on my gun that used to sport a 1.5-5 and I'm real happy with it. Leupold 2-7 is not a bad scope either.

I agree with TJ about the 20mm looking the best on full stocked rifles. That said, I have a Leupold 2-7 vxll on my mannlicher stocked Sako Forester and it looks great and works well.
Those rifles are easy to overwhelm by attaching too large a scope on them. Takes away from the aesthetics and principal of the gun. Just my 2 cents. BT53

Which 2.5 X 8 did you use and what size was the objective lens? did you have to use the offset ring on it?

Another vote for the 20mm objective scopes. My .308 Ruger wears a Leupold 1-4X
