VladimirSt. Hubert (Yugo) rifle
My question,
I picked up an inexpensive 30-06 rifle this weekend stamped "Made in Yugoslavia" and "Saint Hubert Co". As it was cheap, I figured I wouldn't lose much if I got burned - turns out to be a real accurate and smooth actioned rifle. Anyone know about the "St. Hubert Co'? I've never heard of them....any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vlad

miklorVlad, I to picked up a St. Hubert, though mine was made in England. Model U-9 in 458 Win. I have been unable to find any information on it on the internet.

okie johnIn the 50's and 60's, a US firm called Herters imported rifles and gear from everywhere, as well as making some of their own stuff. They sold rifles with what they called the "Herters U-9 Action." I believe it was made by BSA in England. Google Herters U-9 and you may find what you need. Also, Frank De Haas wrote up the U-9 and the BSA rifles in this book "Bolt Action Rifles."
Good luck.

Masteriflemanokie john is correct, if that rifle is stamped U-9, it is a Herters and the action is a BSA. I just acquired a Herters J-9 which is a Zastava (MarkX) action. There are no markings on the receiver other than Zastava's "Z" in a circle. On the barrel, it is clearly marked "Herters". Back in the early sixties, Herters was offereing actions, barreled actions and complete rifles on these two actions. As I recall, the J-9 actions were about $67 a piece. Hindsight would have had me buying one a pay day. This J-9 that I have is much better finished than the current MarkX/Charles Daly actions.

mr rigbythe Hubertus deer, he was out hunting and he saw a superb example of a deer that he wouldnt want to shoot it, so he returned home and would never hunt again. The Hubertus deer is on the bottle of the Jaegermeister bottle by the way.
