Why?
They have argued about about every med. bore cart. under the sun in this forum and I think it would be refreshing to to argue about Zebras, eh..

GeedubyaHey, be careful, its only a 1.5 months till bow season, not much time to settle this. So in the spirit of the thread, and for the sake of argument, which will you move it to, big bore or small caliber?

SevensI believe, in addition to being smaller, the Hartmann's zebra has thinner and tighter stripes than the Burchell's. They also do not exhibit the shadow stripe commonly found on a Burchell's.

Idaho SharpshooterMy PH said that stripe pattern is about it.

FjoldThe mountain zebras (Hartman's) that I saw in Namibia were lighter in weight and had brown stripes instead of the black stripes of the Burchell's that I took.

KarooPhysically there is quite a big difference.
The skin pattern differs in that the Hartmann's (and the Cape Mountain zebra) do not have the shadow stripe of the southern Burchell or Plains zebra.
The Hartmann's has a white belly and a distinctive brown muzzle.
Also, the Burchell is described as having the body shape of a Shetland pony and the Mountain zebras as that of a mule.

Tapper2Karoo is correct. The Hartmann's is bigger, no shadow stripes and has a white belly.....Tom

Tsquare2Here's a couple photos, one of a Burchell's taken in Masailand in Tanzania. The other is a Hartmann's Mountain zebra taken in Namibia.
