ElCaballeromy next rifle?
I have 4 rifles 22, 223, 6.5x55, and a 300 win mag. I would like to get one more. It will be a custom made by a local smith. However I am having difficulty deciding what cal I want. I do know I want it between the 6.5 and the 300. What do you think it should be? I don't think I want a wildcat until I become more comfortable with reloading.

browningguyWell I like the 270 Winchester. I've got a Martini action .300 Sherwood for plinking (old British round)as soon as the dies come in, a 270 BAR and a 30-06 BAR. I shoot the 270 with 140 gr. bullets for things up to whitetail size, the '06 with 180 grain bullets for everything else.

ForrestB270 or 280. Given your other rifles, I'd go with the 280. Handloading will greatly increase the flexibility of the 6.5x55 and 280.

Shumbadefinitely the .338-06. If you have any thoughts on going to Africa and/or Alaska, then a 375H&H or 416 Rem.
Deciding is half the fun!!!
Good Luck.

<eldeguello>IF you INSIST on something between the 6.5mm and .300", then I recommend the .280 Remington/7X64mm. It is more versatile than the .270, because there is a larger range of bullet weights and style made in 7mm size, but this is not to say the .270 Win. is not an excellent round. It is.
If you are willing to go above .300", then get some version of the .338/'06. If you are a handloader, I suggest some type of an improved .338/'06.
