Initial 8X68S Test
I started shooting my 8X68S today. So far I am pleased with the consistancy. I had a hard crosswind during my testing but still got fairly good results.

Great cartridge! The best "8mm"

Accurate, too.

Hunted a lot with it.

It is a real killer...

Ron Glad to see you are happy with preliminary results with the 185 gr Rem bullet. Do you have plans in the near future to hunt with this rifle. If so what bullets were you planning to use? I shoot an 8mm Rem and an 8x68 and both of these calibres require a stoughtly made bullet

I use the Remington bullets in my 8X57s so I have a large supply of these. Will use these to punch paper or shoot hogs with until I have a better feel for loading this round.

I wanted to have a 8x68S built at one time, but I could never find a suitable action. What rifle is your 8x68S in?

Ron-
What brass are you using? If it is true 8x68S brass, where did you get it? Huntington's has quit selling RWS 8x68S brass. I'm looking for another source.

If I still had the 8x68 brass, I would sell it to you, but I got rid of it all, and the dies too.
I made a decision to go with a wildcat, that fit the actions I have already which is a Ruger and a Mauser, both standard length magnum actions. I bought the reamer and custom dies from Redding for the 323 Hollis, which uses the commonly available brass for the 308 Norma Big Grin.
I have all the parts, but the project just hasn't arisen to the top of my gunsmith's to-do list.

I figured the 323 Hollis just about duplicates the 8x68S ballistically, using a commonly available receiver, and Norma brass may be $1 each, but at least it's readily available. and the dies are about the same cost either way. It's also a handloader cartridge either way.

I have about 300 rounds of RWS factory ammo and a few brass and 80 rounds of factory Norma ammo so I should be set for a while. It was rather hard to scrape up what I have. But I understand now that factory Norma ammo is now available in the US.

Midway is offering RWS factory ammo now too. They have four different loadings but, from what I can gather, it is only available seasonally.

The last I had heard was that the Norma loading will not be made available in the U.S. But that decision had been on-again/off-again so it could change.

Ron,

Thanks for the update. It's good to know that the Norma ammunition will be offered here. It's a heck of a loading, although I wish they had gone with the 220-gr. A-Frame.
