spurritRe: Lyman Alaskan 2.5x Scope???
The Lyman Alaskan scopes were up over $200 last fall, but, now, they're goin' for $20-$50 on E-bay, now. Those bullshitters in the forum that say these scopes are no good have never had one. I've had mine out in sleet, snow, and freezing rain with nary a bit of fogging up. They are some of the toughest friggin' scopes I've ever seen! I only got mine because it came with a Paul Jaeger Mauser I bought (For $200!!!)last fall.

<eldeguello>Yes, I weas really disappointed when Leupold dropped these. I don't know why they discontinued them, except that if the demand was too low, of course they'd drop anything that wasn't making money. I wanted to buy one, but delayed too long, and, "Pssshhhttt! They wus gone", as they used to sing on Hee Haw!!

Alberta CanuckThat's why I preferred the post without the crosshair as a reticule. Without the crosshair reference point, one never really noticed that it wasn't centered for height, and with the Redfield Jr. Mounts that I used back then, just as now, you COULD center the scope for windage.
Actually, I have owned both...that is the Lyman and the Leupold versions of the Alaskan, and I much preferred the original Lymans...for one thing, a LOT more useable (less critical) eye relief, at least in my scopes. I also believe the Lymans were more sturdy.
