steyrssg04.308 win ssg04 cant stabilize the factory lapua subsonic ammo!?!?
Hi!
(sry for my poor english)
So i just bought a brand new ssg04 .308 win with 23.6" barrel (four groove 1:10" RH twist) and its cant stabilize the factory lapua ammo (without supressor), with normal ammo its just shoot perfect. I tought the barrel maybe damaged or somthing and i gave it to a gunsmith and he said no problem with it. Someone plz tell me whats the problem?

Antelope SniperIs that subsonic ammo shooting a long bullet at low velocity?
Longer the bullet, lower the velocity, the faster the twist needed.

steyrssg04this is the bullet : .308 win Lapua FMJBT (Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail), 200gr, velocity 1066 fps - this is a factory lapua ammo
so u think the barrel is the problem? too slow the twist?

Antelope SniperSteyr, yes, that would be my inclination.
If you look at something like a .300 Blackout that is designed for shooting subsonic loads such as this they typically have a 1 in 7, or one in 8 twist

vapodogAntelope sniper has this one nailed....possibly if one was to use a much shorter bullet in a subsonic you might see some success.

steyrssg04Ty for the answers
What subsonic ammo should i use for this gun than? Need some load data what will work with this barrel plz.
A 200 grain boattail bullet is at the big end of what a 1:10 twist .308 barrel will stabilize at normal velocities. You'll probably have to back down to a more "normal" .308 bullet weight to make it stabilize at a subsonic velocity. Try a 165 to start. I don't have any load data for that.
