UPDATE.. I just called customer service and they said it was a mistake on the website. HOWEVER I was told that if could get 50 people that want one and a dealer to go along with it they would do a special run!!



first saw this over on 24hourcampfire.com.
It is showing most models being offered in 300h&h.
What seems strange is that most models are showing the 300 h&h but not the 300 win mag?

Is this a mistake or what? Seems like if its a misprint that a decent computer guy could correct it and about 3 minutes

I don't know if Winchester is doing this but, in my opinion, it would be a very good idea. After all, Ruger has decided to abandon the long action calibers. Remington is concentrating on the long range accuracy and military wantabee market. Savage rifles are not designed for the long calibers and they don't offer them. People who buy a Weatherby generally want a Weatherby caliber. So, the general consumer market is wide open, the long action competition is gone. Winchester should be offering a wide assortment in 300H&H. And, if they were smart, they would offer 400H&H as a choice from their custom shop. Which would you choose: a clunky, underweight Ruger 77 with a bizarre muzzle brake in 416 Ruger or a classically styled and balanced Winchester 70 in 400H&H? That would be an easy choice for me.

It seems doubtful that they would drop the Win Mag?

I do hope that they are offering the Holland though.

Eitehr way, I hope they start making more brass again. I just bought a Ruger No.1 so-chmambered and brass is a bit steep!

This is great news. I own an OM 300H&H and I would love some new brass. It is a hassle to make from 375.

I have been shooting the same old 300 H&H pre 64 mod 70 since about 1950 or somewhere about tht time..Paid $116.00 for it new...

I load the 200 gr. Nosler or Woodleigh to 3005 FPS in its 26 inch tube..have been for 50 plus years..That is the one killingest bullet at that velocity on elk and deer, plus all plainsgame and bear that I have ever used..It has a track record that is actually better than my .338 or 9.3x62 which actually bothers me in that I love those two guns but the record shows I don't need any other gun...The 300 H&H will best most of the 300s until you get to the 300 WBY and it equals most handloads of that big girl...

It is very popular in african and has been for many years, and mostly they have the Rem. 721s has been my observation..

It's just an awesome caliber, it feeds so smooth and better yet that sloping case extracts so easy under all conditions..

It is claimed by many experts to stretch cases, but properly resized I have not seen a heck of a lot of difference in it and other calibers when loaded to max or near max...If you headspace it on the belt your will need to trim and full length resize every time, but the answer to that that is neck size on the shoulder. I resize on the belt (full length resize) only on ammo that has been fired one time and I intend to go on a expensive hunting trip with, but in truth, I usually use new cases for that.

I have never had trouble finding 300 H&H cases, but have not had the need to look for over two years..I see them advertised however, mostly Remington..I think Huntingtons have a stock. I bought a case of WW some few years ago..Based on this thread with the rebirth of the H&H, I betcha WW is gearing up with some good brass, and Remington will get theirs out there as well as others...

The good news is albiet with mixed emotions is that if I took my 300 H&H to the range every day for the rest of my life I couldn't shoot just the ammo I have loaded up on my shelf especially with a birthday looming up within a week...Not sure if this is good or bad!

If they would do a special run of 50 rifles in 300 H&H, why not similar lots of 358 Win or 404 Jeffery (300 RUM action)??

In today's flexible mass customised manufacturing environment, I am surprised by Winchester's hesitation in doing small runs and meeting customer demand!

50 rifles for a special order? Hummmmmmmmm? Wonder if they would do the same for, oh, say, 6.5x54 Mannlicher? 9.3x62? 8x60S? 7x64? 6.5x68? 8x68S? Any other Euro or hard to find British calibers? Think about it, guys. A truly rare and verifiable M70 CRF that we could shoot and enjoy and then pass on as a true heirloom to our heirloomees. The downside, if such production is possible, is that it will take us the rest of our lifetimes to agree on a caliber!
