mark65x55Went to the range this morning
and took two rifles.
Rifle A was a Rem. 700 7mm RM with a 24" stainless barrel loaded with the following: 140gr Accubond, 66.5gr of Reloader 22 with a Federal 215 primer.
Rifle B was also Rem. 700 270win with a 24" stainless barrel loaded with the following: 140gr Accubond, 59.5gr of Reloader 22 with a Winchester WLR primer.
Care to guess the velocity of these loads in these rifles?

Rob1SGI'd guess 3250 for the 7 RM and 3050 for the 270 Win.

mark65x55Well, I was very suprised to see the 270 was getting 2975fps and the the 7mm was only 2925.

I've owned the 270 for a couple years and its a known shooter and killer. I've shot some groups in the 1/2" to 3/4" range with it but the best I got yesterday was about an 1.25 inch group.
This was the first trip to the range with the 7mm and the first load I tried in it. After adjusting the scope I shot a sub .5" group with it! Which is great but I sure was hoping for more velocity, 3100 to 3200 would be nice while keeping the group size to 1" or less. I'm thinking of tring some Reloader 19 in it.

woodsHey Mark
The Nosler #5 manual lists 3250 fps for 65.5 gr RL22 and 3340 fps for 67.5 gr (max) RL22. If you are getting 2925 fps at 66.5 gr RL22 you have a seriously slow barrel or you are way off the lands.
I have a Sako 270 that has shot many loads at around 3075 fps with 59.5 gr RL22. It has a 22" barrel.

Rob1SGMy 7 RM a Ruger was slow so I rebarreled to 25" and with 67 gr of RL 22 I get 3300 fps with the Accubond 140 gr. chrono'd

308SakoMark, for what it's worth I am currently using R22 with your charge (66 grs) under a 160 AB and getting the accuracy you describe. In my experience which is limited with the 7 Rem Mag, velocity is not so easy to come by, but the cartridge is an awesome killer...

I've got some IMR4350, I'll have to try that. What primer are you using?

BigNateI used a 140gr Sierra GK over 72.5gr of RL19, CCI primers. I never chono'd it, and have since used heavier bullets. It was flat shooting and accuracy was good. Nate

I used to use the CCI Magnum primers but now have switched to the Federal 215. This load is totally devastating on deer. Bang Flop!

Are you sure that's not supposed to read 62.5?

BigNateDang It! I am usually pretty good about not giving exact data when I can't reference it, and I guess I may well have banged the wrong key and not caught it. It does seem way hotter than book. I'll have to look it up for sure now but thats what came to mind. It's been a few years and I've been loading only 160 & 162gr lately. MY BAD! Nate

BigNate I did screw up!
I was having a brain fart. My RL19 load with the Sierra 140's was only 65.5gr, book I think is higher.
The charge weight I had listed was a load I tried with Hornady 162gr and Retumbo. It showed promise but not as good as a couple others. Nate
