Blasphemy - Thinking of a Blaser
I am thinking of a Blaser R-8 - this specific gun

http://www.eurooptic.com/r8-pr...-complete-rifle.aspx

300 win mag

I will not hunt dangerous game or africa with it.

I know many smart rifle guys who like it and who hate it.

Never seen much a sharp divide on a gun before.

Shoot away with comments. Will be looking at blaser at DSC.

EuroOptic are great guys to deal with and if your looking for a nice rifle to travel around with then you've found a winner. They are astonishingly accurate...unlike the crap shoot when you pick out an American rifle.

If you want something that looks and functions a little more traditional...try the sauer 404. Same quality barrels and take-down ability.

something to do in dallas - look at 404 and blasers.

Biebs is skipping the show so I wont be embarrassed looking at blasers with him as accuracy with biebs is measured in minute of barn door.

it is amazing how bipolar the opinion on Blaser is from very knowledgeable rifle/gun guys.

I just saw the $2200 price point and it renewed my interest and gave me something to do at dsc other than drinking.

Also the guide I am hunting auodad with really likes blasers - he is a ruger american guy but he said blaser's were super accurate rifles.

Leon Duplessis hates them cause he had a AD with one - I asked a few years back how he had the ad and he said he pulled the trigger - so the gun did what it was supposed to.

The guys at Tholo have a boatload of them and like them as client rifles.

I like the removable trigger - does not come on the $2200 gun.

I like the scope mounting system - can carry a perfectly matched pair of scopes.

I like the synthetic stock - I think of blaser's as tools.

$2200 - it is $1400 more than the ruger I bought in 300 win mag as they (left handed) were going out of production.

I also like I can swap and sell barrels. I am thinking of running this as a suppressed rifle with a omega harvester can on it. Biebs - I assume blaser sells a threaded barrel.

Maybe the 404 is much nicer than the blaser.

Yes, most of their target barrels are threaded.

I don't like any straight-pull action, remembering the Ross and the guy near here who had a bolt driven into his face. For the fraction of a second it takes, turning the bolt is small effort considering the reliability gained.

Hi, happy new year....
Blaser makes good rifles. But to expensive.
Yesterday I shoot this one:
https://www.heymusa.com/rifles/hppr.html
Great perfomance and very accurate. And here in Germany ~800€ cheaper as a R8 standard with woodstock.
Out of the box I shoot a three round group with 11mm. Nice wood stock, Pica-rail and a excellent trigger. And it´s made of steel.....

The price of $2,214 is very good.

My experience is only with the R 93. I mostly like them. What I don't like is:

1. For some reason Blaser put the sling swivel stud on the very front of the stock making the use of a bipod problematic.

2. Blasers are expensive rifles, relatively speaking, and when Blaser has made their run of a specific model, they stop supporting it.

3. At least with the R 93, the stock for me isn't comfortable to use with iron sights.

4. With the R 93, Blaser doesn't supply barrels with the twist rates I would prefer. With the 22-250 you can have a twist of 1:14 or, if you prefer, 1:14. In 223, the fastest twist was 1:9 but that wasn't available when I bought mine so I had to settle on 1:10 when I would have preferred a 1:7 twist.

5. Though it's not an unforgiveable black mark against the brand, not all Blaser barrels are good. I bought a used 257 Weatherby barrel which I suspect was sold because it didn't shoot well. I put at least 100 rounds; maybe 200 rounds of handloads through it and the best I could get consistently was in the 2 MOA or worse range. It had what appeared to be a rough spot in the proximal portion of the barrel and fouled badly after just a few shots and took a LOT of work to get clean again. I returned the barrel to Blaser USA and they, to their credit, determined the barrel was defective and sent me a brand new barrel which was entirely satisfactory.

I too would go by the Blaser/Mauser/Sauer booth and talk with Tip Burns. I own a Mauser M 03 with several barrels. I want (lust) for a Sauer 404! A very nice system rifle. It has several improvements over the M 03.

By the way its pronounced phonetically in Idaho and Texas as "Blazer" dancing

Spent a lot of time looking at blasers, 404 and m 03.

Liked the blaser the best. Looks like I will be buying a 300 win mag. Professional package with scope and case and all.

The blaser folks were very nice - especially when the found out biebs would not be there bothering them.

I have one (R93) since...I don't remember - must be once pre 2000...

Anyway it was a sight to behold - then. Now, when you come to a driven hunt it looks like a bloody army - everyone and their dog has one so Merkel double gets the walk on those - as long as weather is fine. If not, Blaser has to sweep the floor.

It is a good tool tho and it will grow up on you.

Trying to find the safest rifle that reduces error the most. Nothing beats a blazer.

Removable trigger - fire mechanism
A cocking mechanism for a safety

After the safety features it's

Best scope mounting system - can carry a spare scope with 100 percent replacement accuracy

Best carrying case for rifle and scopes

If i hunt Africa and don't bring a rifle - places I would hunt at have blasers - they like them as they are practical and can have multiple barrels on a single license. All I need to take is my left handed bolt and I have a left handed rifle.

Don't forget to bring the lefty bolt head according to caliber as well + be carefull and ask which model those camp Blasers are. R8 and R93 don't share same components (only scope mount), therefore if you have an R8 and a camp has R93 it won't work.

I handled an R8 success at Frankonia yesterday night.

I also fingered a Haenel, Sauer 404, Merkel (smooth but you can't even do basic maintenance to it) and a handful of others.

I liked the R8 Success the best.

But:

1. I don't think that it is a good deal, Blaser will come out with a new rifle in 5 or 10 years and we will have to start again. It is over priced. A Merkel with 8 wood and engraving was $3500, the R8 Success in plastic is $3500.

2. The magazine is fine, but the system it uses where the trigger is the magazine (kind of) sucks, and is expensive.

3. It will shoot

4. You can make it a 500 Schuler, 416 Rem Mag, 338 Lapua, 222, anything you want.

5. short and handy

6. Oh and it is heavy!
