A fixed 4x scope, built with good glass, will suffice for 99% of the hunting that most will actually do, unless you've got vision like Fudley McGoo.
Then the real answer isn't a higher-magnification scope; it's modern LASIK procedure.
So given good glass comes out of Europe, who still makes a fixed 4x with good glass?
I spent (readed wasted) far too much time today trying to find a pig hit and ultimately lost by another hunter with a fixed 4x. For the shot provided and taken a variable would have been a far better option.
And that was the scopes fault?
No, it was the fault of the bloke who took the advice of someone with the same mentality as A.J., and believed a 4x could cover 99% of situations.
My question remains though, who makes a good European glass 4x?

Dude, you're being overly myopic on glass quality.
For some time now, Euro glass has competed with Jap glass in scopes. I've got a fixed 4x Weaver scout scope (Jap-made), and the glass is excellent. Clear through out, with no 'blurred' edges.
Is that your way of saying a Euro made fixed 4x no longer exists? Perhaps because in Europe there are better options for 99% of the hunting they do???
Hmm, I wonder if the DJV bookshop sells German translations of Jeff Coopers books?

wasbeemanI don't know about 99% but I know I've hunted whole seasons and never moved my scope(s) off of its lowest setting.
As a suggestion, if a 4x doesn't work for you, try getting closer.

99.9% of Europeans don't hunt anything, and the few that do just accept whatever optic their gunsmith installed on their rifle. If their 'smith said they needed a Zeiss 4x16x50 to hunt squirrels, the Euro dude would just smile and nod like a moron, and say: "Ja! Fur chur, mon!"

Hope so for your sake, mate

... You're never too old to learn something from a real master - even down there in Oz where hunting is fading into a distant memory.
You still haven’t answered the question, what European manufacturers make fixed 4x scopes.
And by the sounds of it your knowledge of hunting in Australia and Europe is pitiful, perhaps you might want to read something other than Cooper for a change.

And you're still boring us ... Please come back when you've got something interesting to add here.
Thank you.

Just answer the question.
Or is your real life catching up with you and encroaching on the fantasy life you’d have us believe you live in Texas?
