Lipseys african
I was looking at lipseys website and they are listing a ruger 77 hawkeye african 270. Is this the next in the series? If so does it have the heavier barrel like the 35 whelen(not a big fan)

Yes, it's the next in the series. I doubt any have been shipped yet so, I don't know if it has the heavier barrel like the 35. I hope it does not!!

Maybe someone who is at the SHOT Show will let us know about the barrel.

This is great news! I’m happy to hear they are still going on with the African series. With any luck, the 30-06 will be next!…Please.

I'm curious about Lipseys rifles. Never heard of them in Canada. Are they some kind of special Ruger guns--maybe made specially for Lipseys? Or just standard Rugers that Lipseys get first dibs or exclusive rights on?

I went on to the Lipseys website and saw that the overall weight listed for the Hawkeye African .270 is 7 lbs. 6 oz., so very unlikely it has a heavy barrel. Bbl length is 24".

They are special run rugers made for lipseys, have been in some unusual calibers. 6.5x55,7x57,9.3x62,280ai,35 whelen, and 223.

The early ones had a lighter sporter barrel than the last 35 whelen. Hopefully they when back to the lighter contour.

I just ordered one. Should be here in a few days. I'll pick it up next week and report on the barrel profile.

I just picked up two Lipsey's African 270's.
Ruger is using a darker stain than on previous runs, but the finish work on the wood is abysmal with sanding marks on both stocks. I'll be calling Ruger CS Monday to see what they will do about it.

They also have an M77/22 Hornet African that I really like the look of.

I'm happy to report they have returned to an "A" weight barrel like the first 3.

Thanks cj for the great news!!

Now, let’s hope when they make the 30-06 that they use this same ‘A’ weight barrel as on the first (3). I’ll buy (2) if they do! Are you listening Ruger?

cj,

What did your stock look like? Anything bad like Tree’em mentioned?

Nothing like Tree'em's. The left side of the stock, at the action, that rubs on the plastic sleeve and bottom of the box, has some dullness to it.

It's nothing that I'd contact Ruger over.

I'm not sure that a camera would pick it up.

Well, I just found both a Ruger African in 270 and a Ruger African in 22 Hornet, and bought them both. Great find. Hope Ruger can come out with that 30-06 next! Thanks to cj for the good info on the thin barrel contours!

I bought one or a couple of each run, held them at from a month to 6 months and sold them. they are an excellent investment, and a fine factory rifle.
