Being a novice could somebody look at the pics and tell me the signifiance of the action and bbl markings/stampings ? it is dated 1916 and the bore looks great and i already cycled 30-06 ammo thru and all works well . i paid $275 for it , did i pay too much ? any help welcome. here is link to pics

It is as it you see it....all is marked on the gun

You got a functioning .30-06 for $275 and it appears to have a new barrel and stock looks quite good....

I could not see the safety or the bolt to determine if they need altering to attach a scope but for sure the drill and tap for bases will need to be done if you want a scope attached.

All in all it's a good sound shooter in .30-06....what more can one say?

Looks like you got yourself a solid workhorse of a rifle. The proof will be in how well it shoots. Thats the fun part for me. I notice it needs to be drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Do you know what you are going have installed yet?

I didn't answer your question about the cost. I look at it this way, it probably cost more to supply the wood and have that stock fitted and finished than what you paid for the entire gun.

If it looks as good in person as in the pictures I'd have payed 275$ without second thought. Nice rifle.
