gunny270 wcf, 270 winchester
Looking at four pre 64 model 70 Winchesters. One stamped 270 WCF and one stamped 270 Winchester. Another stamped 30 WCF and one stamped 30-06. I assume these are different or earlier stamps for the same caliber??

While the 270 wcf and 270 Win are one in the same the 30 wcf and .30-06 sure as heck aren't.
The 30 WCF is also known as the .30-30 Winchester. The .30-06 is often called the .30 Government as well as a host of others.

enfieldsparesHere in England you'll also sometimes see 30-06 rifle cartridges stamped as .300" and also, in old publications, the Model 1917 described as being of .300" calibre. Ditto the Browning 1917 Machine Gun.
