Went to the range today. Handloaded some 150g Partitions for my two sons 270s.

Started out with factory Federal Vital Shok 150g Partitions Accuracy was very good (.5 MOA) velocity was slow 2740 fps. It's good ammo if you can find it, problem is we can't. I was also surprised how slow it was.


So I went to my ancient handloading notebook and loaded some 150g Partitions:

Remington cases, Federal 215 Primers, H4831 powder:

57g 2919 fps sub moa
57.5g 2940 fps sub moa
58g 2950 fps all holes touching
58.5g 2980 fps moa

No pressure signs on any loads, primers look good, no bright marks on the case heads, easy extraction. Probably going to go with the 58g load ... Guess I'll be loading for the boys for awhile.

That load should handily take care of anything you care to hunt. If you're of an experimental frame of mind, RL-22, Accurate 3100 and IMR-4831 all have worked even better for me with 150 Partitions.

I like H4831 & IMR4350 for the .270 with 150's & the '06. Sounds like there's nothing wrong with the barrels either.

Slow is sometimes better..if it means less trcoil and so the ability to remain on aim to see the effect of the shot.

I also use H4831 and have used IMR4350 in 270 Winchester both with 150 grain bullets as you do. It is a good combination although I load a couple to three grains below your load.

Good advice, talked it over with my sons. 2900 fps is plenty and a bit less recoil never hurts so 57g it is.

I'm not surprised your Federal factory stuff clocked slow. I just shot some 130 grain Fusion ammo through my .270 and it was about 2880 fps. A lot slower than their published 3050 fps on the web site.
