I heard they were supposed to be out by spring. I'd like to hear what you think. Sorta interested in the 350 Rem Mag.

[Begin rant] The .350 rem mag is a great cartridge crippled by the rifles in which it was offered.

The .350 is a fine medium/large game cartridge that can do anything the 9.3x62 does with bullets of similar sectional density. It takes 274 grains of .358 to equal the sectional density of the traditional 286 grains in 9.3. Yet, Remington uses 1-16 twist barrels that, at best, will be iffy with spitzer bullets over 250 grains, and their new factory load provides a 200 grain deer bullet rather than a heavier elk/bear/moose/kudu bullet.

The 9.3x62 is a great cartridge and I have no critcism for it. CZ will sell a jillion 550's with 9.3 bores. But, why can't the equally capable Whelen and Rem Mag be offered with barrels and bullets suitable to larger game?

It DOES get under my skin that you can't get the American gun factories to treat the .35 Whelen or .350 Remmy as anything other than big deer cartridges. Deer hunters don't need the additional recoil versus deer calibers and large game hunters need more sectional density.

Swift produces a 280 grain A-Frame, NorthFork a 270 grain, Woodleigh a 310 grain RN - all these would be great on bigger critters when driven from a faster-twist barrel. [End rant]

Sigh.........

Perhaps an even uglier rifle than the original. A Rem 700 dressed like a it was going to a drag queen show.

Kevin,
Loved your comment!
The front sight looks akin to the end of my boat hook!

I handled a 673 last week. It was in 300saum. It felt more like a 700 than a Model 7. I had a Mod 7 from the custom shop in the kevlar stock, 20" bbl that I liked much better than the 673. The recoil of the custom 350RM was not bad at all, and I shot a lot of 250gr. bullets, both factory and handloads.
Big Iron is correct, while it is an excellent deer ctg with the 200gr. bullets, with 250gr and up it is a very capable "BIG" big game ctg. That custom Mod 7 handled like a fine shotgun [almost as good as a British Bolt Rifle]. If the rifle only fed 100% I would still have it.
