350 Rem mag barrel lengh?
Is a twenty inch barrel to short for this round?

There are a few guys around here who have a 20" and seem perfectly happy with them. That's what I would go with if I was to build one

I am looking at buying a used rifle that has a 20" barrel and do not want to end up shooting at 358 win speeds with a large muzzle blast.

I've got a 22" bbl on my Rem 673. I get an easy 2800 fps with a 200gr. bullet and 2450fps with a 250gr. bullet.

I'd think you'd lose about 50fps overall. Still, that's more than adequate for North America.

Should be fine, may be a lil slower then a 22-24" barrel, but if the goal was scorching 358 bullets you'd be looking at something else Wink

There is a guy selling a 22" version for a good price, pm me if you want details

I think 20 would make a good practicle carbine length.
Were'nt the original Rem carbine 18"?

Yes the R600's had 18" barrels on both the 350 and 6.5....great in the 350 (although quite light for the recoil level) but way too short in the 6.5. Probably the biggest reason one is still here and one is languished to the "obsolete" chapter in COTW lol

I just picked up a Remington Custom Shop Mannlicher in 350 Rem Mag. I've had the cartridge in a synthetic KS from the Custom Shop before, and they are little cannons with the 20" barrel. Deer and Black Bear are DRT. Similar ballistics as a 338 Federal or 35 Whelen.

Twenty inch bbls are just fine. Larger caliber slinging heavy lead equal a great killer.

Nice rifle, I got a Mannlicher from them in 7MM-08. They do nice work in the Custom Shop. thumb

Mine is a 20" M7KS and the muzzle blast will damage unprotected ears with one shot - I say that based on experience.

I now have a set of Sonic Ear Valves chained in their case to the Trigger Guard. Before a cartridge goes into the chamber, the Ear Valves go in my ears.

I've thought about re-barreling mine to 24", but it shoots so good with the 20" factory Remington barrel, that I've left it alone. It sure is handy at 20", but if you shoot it even once without protection your ears will ring forever. Just the way it works.

Best of luck in your choice.

I had a Remington model 7KS in 350 Rem Mag with a 20" barrel.

I liked it.

I replaced it with a 375 H&H with a 19 3/4" barrel.

Short barreled Medium Bores handle and shoot great.

I think it would be ok too.
You should get at least 100 to 150 FPS more than from a 20 inch .358.
If I were to build a 350 RM I would go with a 22 inch. But if I found a good deal on a 20 inch I would snap it up.
