Varget or RL15 or does it matter?

It does matter, but only your rifle can tell you which.

Two of my friends use Varget in their 308s with good success. I use it in my 708.

Those are good places to start for sure.
But I have had as good of luck with w-748 and IMR-4064.
If you have varget and RL 15 on had see what they do by all means.
The 150 grain ttsx at about 2800 or maybe a little better would likly be a great game killer out to about 300 yards for anything short of a big brown bear...tj3006

Going to give both a try tomorrow. RL15 has worked exceptionally well with 165gr BT's, 165gr North Forks and 180gr A-Frames.

This will be the first loads with the Varget. Will let you know the results.

I used Vit 540 and the 165 Hornady boatail and found that it was shooting better than my Varget loads at 50yds.I had 4 pounds of 15yr old Vit 540 that I wanted to use up and gave it a try.I know that vit 140 is most accurate for the 308 better than varget,IMO.I was surprised to see the 540 shoot so well out of my 308 especially in the eroded condition the throat is in.

I worked up some loads for the Tikka T3 using Remington brass, CCI BR-2 primers and the 150gr TTSX's.

Started at 46gr and worked up to the max of 48gr which is the max listed for both RL15 and Varget. The 48 and 47.5 gr loads of RL15 gave sub 1" 3 shot groups.

Varget gave sub 1" 3 shot groups in every weight, I was impressed by this. So, both powders worked, but I'd give the edge to Varget for it's consistency over charge weight.

I'd say your choice in Varget will make you happy. I've found it to be less temperature sensitive than Reloader 15.

Why bother, the 165gr Accubonds already shoot in your rifle?

Well I promised results from my shoot and there may be those that find it useful. But yes I think I'll be sticking with the Accubonds.

Already posted them, go up 5 posts from this one. Just to clarify I shot those loads the same day as I shot the AB's. The AB loads were kind of just for giggles since I had the brass primed and the powder in the hopper.

Sometimes you work hard to find a great load for a particular bullet and despite your best efforts never find it. And then other times like in the case with the AB load for me, you stumble right into it. Something akin to that blind squirrel finding a nut....
